I would send these pictures to Paul Rubino through the old Blue book if you have one. Thic cue might be a Paradise though I'm not sure. But it's positively the right vintage. 60's or early 70's.
Good luck.

I agree. The last time I saw one, they were burying an old friend. Stu, we called him Studini. King of the five rail bank. Hell of a one hole player. The cue is burried with him. He was holding it at the funeral home. He beat Wennie Beanie when he was a kid in Alexandria, Virginia way back.
Seeing the cue warms my heart. Thanks PTM.

Wow, that's what I call an expert in his field.

Edwin,
Thanks but I owe it to years of disappointing customers who think they are holding a new house in their hands. :)
I will share a little knowledge with you. In the case of this cue, the screw is a dead give away, along with the joint. That told me Adam right away. Now suppose it didn’t have that joint, and was replaced. The inlay pattern in the forearm is the second thing that screams Adam / Helmstetter. The third is the points and the fourth is the ring work in the back end. Once I had the big picture its off to the archives and / or Blue Book and bingo the cue is exactly as it should be.

Never thought it was worth much.......but how much would you value that cue at.......it still has the original leather wrap. I figured maybe 100.....up to 200, if ya found the right person. Not that I want to sell it.......just wondering what it was worth. PS.......thanks for the ID Joe.

Mechanic,
I think you would get 350 for it on Ebay. Adam doesn't have the following that Palmer does. But there are some people that would buy it because of its age.

Wow..That much! When you hit a ball with it you knew it was more than just an average cue. It hits great......57" I think.......just feels stubby if that makes any sence! Thanks again...........you da man!

Thank you for sharing your wisdom, Joe. On top of my wishlist as a cuemaker is a wish to spend some time and understand the wisdom of 1. Ernie Gutierrez (the one I consider the Master at blending Engineering and Fine Art) and 2. Joe Van - an expert in the art and science of cue appreciation. I want to learn and understand the differences between cues from innovators of cue art and engineering. The subtle changes incorporated by a cue master craftsman (CMC)and the reasons behind them. How the CMCs anticipated and blended the consumers' prevailing design and playability leanings with their own engineering and design bias. I do have my own design and engineering knowledge but I want to know and understand from the experts point-of-view.

Hi PTM,
From what I heard, David is considered eccentric but I also want to have an opportunity to talk to him like you lucky ones have had.

Do you know much about Keith Kustom Cues? I had the chance to own a few...but since let go. They where solid! Very Solid. I had one made with a Blood wood wrap area....and Forearm and butt were a yellowish wood...Canary I think. It was cheap....and I used it for playing on bar tables. I could break and it felt like I was hitting the cue ball so hard.....I was shooting the one ball with the cue! Could make 2 every time. I heard he quit making cues......but heard recently he was back.

It could very well be an adams, but there were knock offs. One of my first cues was from the orient in the 60s and looked VERY similar to the cue pictured. btw I still have it

The second Keith quit making cues too I read and he's nowhere to be found.

Hi!
Yep! It is certainly an Adam Monaco. I can say this with all certainty because I have one. My father bought it for me for my sixteenth birthday and it cost $100.00. That was in 1974. My Adam is still near mint condition and still plays as well as it did almost 30 years ago. There is a picture of one in the Blue Book of Pool Cues. I don't think I'll be buried with mine though. I'll give it to my son one of these days.
