IndyQ, the worst customer service response ever...

I'm not taking sides with that guy, because on the phone he has said similar things to me, and I didn't ask for a deal.

BUT, couldn't this have been avoided a little by not asking for a discount on such a low dollar item anyway? He's kinda right. The guy who comes to the bar several days a week, gets the free drink, or fries with his order, faster service, etc. First order and asking for a deal.

He is a hothead though (friends of Roy attack!!!!!)

Apparently you're not suppose to ask the guy for a deal...
Pretty disheartening response for an already struggling industry

I have had bad experience with Roy too. He was very rude and called me names. I would never buy a cue or anything from this *****.

Same here. I e-mailed him about a cue I was interested in one evening around 6 PM PST and asked him where the balance point was.

Next morning I have several e-mails from him starting at 2 AM his time CST? The first one didn't answer my question and was just plain rude. The second one a half an hour later started cussing me out for not responding immediately to him and wasting his time because I obviously wasn't going to buy anything. Then a couple more before I woke up cursing me to hell and gone, ranting like a madman and making threats.

Edit: Needless to say I won't ever be buying anything from him. Because as my dear old Mom used to say, "People have been killed for less."

I don't consider a $875 case a low ticket item ... IMO

Weren't there several threads about him getting robbed at least 2 or 3 times.

While I believe it is an awful thing which shouldn't even happen to SC5. You have to wonder if he talked that way to a thug type person and they just decided he wasn't going to treat them that way.

I've had the same kind of experience with Roy. I bought a $1000 Stacey cue and he had a special going which included two Moori tips with a cue purchase. I asked if he could install them and he said I'd have to have someone else do it. The cue showed up with a loose joint, loose wrap, and one warped shaft. The other shaft warped after a month and when I called to talk to him about it he said the warrantee was void because I had someone other than Stacey install the tips. He's a piece of work.

I can understand why and maybe not for the money, there is no way this guy talks to people face to face like this or he would be rolling around in a wheelchair.

Sounds like someone who is mentally unstable and thinks you're "out to get him" or something. I don't know anything about this guy but from reading your posts, you haven't done anything to start his nonsense.

Thanks OP for the heads up, seems like you're not alone in your experience. The guy seems like an idiot...

Roy is a complete dick – every one knows it. He treated me the same way 7 or 8 years ago, but I just wrote it off to him being a nut. Years later, you see this type of post time after time. People on this forum make excuses for him right and left and it baffles me as to why. As a business owner myself, I find his behavior and attitude towards customers appalling and inexcusable. No one who is truly confident in their product or services would ever treat the buying public as he does.

2Am? Does anyone think there may be a drink or two involved when he sends these responses. That would explain the mood swings but who knows?

Roy has always had a jihad against "trunk dealers". Because he keeps inventory in his "shop" (meaning house) he feels stocking dealers are the only ones who should get a price break. He always railed against the "trunk dealers" selling stuff part time out of their trunk. Never made sense to me but you meet plenty of eccentric guys in pool so I just figured that was his trip.

For a few years I did a lot of deals with Roy and spent some time in his shop. I got to see a lot of different cues I wouldn't have otherwise. He always treated me decent but I knew when it was time to do business that was something different and Roy was going to get his if I wanted something he had. I quickly learned that any type of trade was probably just a quick road to heartburn.

When I knew him NOTHING set him off quicker than random people asking for deals. It was almost pathological. He took it personally and would lose his shit to the point of making me laugh my ass off. I was always able to get along with Roy and learned a fair amount about the cue industry by osmosis....both how to do things and how not to do things.

When I knew him he usually had some quality stuff that was hard to find and priced it way high...but he had people that would pay it. Mostly in Asia I think. At the time when people asked me about Roy I just told them "If he has something you want and you will pay his price you will get what you pay for. Expect anything more and you will end up pissed off."

Roy has always been kinda on an island in the industry and seems to like it that way. He for the most part really doesnt give a shit what anyone thinks of him or how he does things. He reminds me of a few other people who are extremely polarizing in the industry. They have the people who do business with them and have no problems and then they have the people who for whatever reason set them off and create a huge PR problem themselves by acting nutty.

Just proves my point that the longer you spend in the pool industry the crazier you get. Its like living next to power lines or drinking from lead cups.

<----way crazier than in 2007

Yes, for a while I was interested in a Southwest cue and Roy was almost...fatherly. I thought I had a new friend and mentor. Then I settled for a cue by a great but lesser maker. When it arrived I was not satisfied with some aspect of the cue and I saw the ugly side of Roy. Later he told me he was going blind and that he made a mistake because he couldn't read labels or emails or something. He said he was dependent on his grandson or some such thing. I have compassion if it's true but I learned my lesson.

Btw, we eventually reached a compromise agreement but I won't go back to Indyq for anything. Not even something I want...Tom

I'd immediately inform the Better Business Bureau, or whichever organization controls Internet transactions, if there is one. Include copies of these responses.

There's absolutely no justification for such rudeness and vulgarity.

Roy has been doing this for years, how he has stayed in business is beyond me. At least he has CC to defend him.
