Hello All.

I have been a LPN for four years. As such I see honest people shafted by thereinsurance companies on a regular basis. There was one situation recently an older lady maybe in her mid to late 50's.

Turns out she was having complications with her heart and because she didn't report something health wise from twenty years ago she wss dropped by her insurance company. Loojing at this womans chart she was in good health until this inncident and had not seen a doctor other than regular check ups.

Think about that for a second. You pay a lot of money to have coverage and in most cases you dont use it until its really needed and the company that you have given your hardearned dollar to can drop you because you forgot about a doctor telling you about gum disease, no refunds just legal robbery.

So I ask how much is life worth in America ?

Just the wrong Forum Rio. Something like this affects everyone, its just not Pool related.

NPR welcomes threads and opinions like yours.

I work in the Canadian Health Care System, but can still relate and probably tell you different but the same stories that I witness re our broken and quickly getting more broken Health System. My wife is a nurse so we know what the skinny is.

Originally, our Health system was the model world wide. The last thing you should do is model yours after ours any longer.

Yes, and of course we can't leave out the medical community.......from doctors, nurses, and/or hospitals.......

Kickbacks, billing for services not provided, double billing, billing for more hours than in a day, falsifying credentials, substitution of generic drugs, billing for unnecessary tests and services, billing for more expensive tests than what were performed, phantom patients, etc....

We might as well know both sides of the coin before we flip it

This is classic example as to how the rich get richer at the behest of the poor. this has been going on for years! YOU ONLY HEAR ABOUT IT NOW BECAUSE IT IS HAPPENING MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY.

When I had a family back in my 20's, the Dr.s office would charge me for a visit, then submit the WHOLE BILL again to insurance co. The DR. was DOUBLE BILLING. I found out about it at the end of the quarter when I was supposed to get my "covered" (which was never much) services reimbursed. The Dr. refused to pay me the part he took from insurance even though I paid up front. They claimed a "clerical error"
Amount was too small to levy in court, so I ate it and found a new Dr.

NOW, the Insurance co's, and your employers want to know all your private medical history !! They want it so if need be, they'll do what is written above. SCUMBAG TACTICS !

These are a few reasons why I think healthcare in USA needs an overhaul. NOT SURE Obama-care is the answer.

My Dr. has a regular office and a walk in clinic. He is mainly a scrip writer.

His goal is to see how many patients that he can push thru on any given day. He refuses to give you a referral to a specialist as that would require phone calls, paper work and follow up paper work.

His answer to anything more than writing a scrip is to go to ER. They will look after you.

Our Health Care System killed my father. Plain and simple. My wife and I had seen too much neglect and abuse. We were lucky to be able to get him into another hospital that has a Vets wing.

The Drs that attended to him were shocked that his body was so badly compromised when he was transferred. My Father spent the last 6 months in a bed thanks to our wonderful practitioners. A simple hip replacement and he never walked again.

He was in a special care room after the surgery. It would be called an acute care room. He contracted C Diff and later on MSRA. At work, I am in contact with MSRA daily and make sure that I take the necessary precautions as to not get it.

Being in an acute care room, both afflictions were brought in to him as an acute care room is an Isolation room. Staff were not taking the necessary precautions before entering the room.

Before myself or anyone enters an Isolation room, there is a 5 minute rigamarole that you have to go thru before entering and twice as long to decontaminate yourself after leaving.

Anyway, back to my Dr. I went onto the site, Rate My Doctor.com and looked his name up. I was shocked and not shocked at the same time.
My Dr was under investigation by the College of Physicians And Surgeons for trading narcotic scrips for sexual favors. He skated.

I know little about Obama care but it certainly sounds like it is setting itself up for more abuse than was possible previously.
I doubt that the tax payers can afford the abuse and potential fraud. let alone the cost of your Health care.
When a Dr is involved in a walk in clinic, it would so easy to add the odd patient into his weekly billing. If questioned, the Dr could easily pass it off as a clerical error. This is just one simple way to abuse the system.

This is only hear say but comes from the hospital that I work at. When a Dr does his rounds, he bills $60 per patient. There is more than one Dr that will come in daily, do quick rounds and see, lets just say, up to 10 patients or more, then leave, maybe for a Sunday game of golf. $600, maybe more for much less than one hrs work. Do that several times a month and that Mercedes is paid for. This from Unit Clerks and I would say that they are pretty much in the know.

RJ brought up several more good points.

In a round about way this thread is pool related. If you are in poor heath you can't play pool, at least not very well.
I'm sure, however, that when Obama care kicks in next year we'll all be healthy as an ox in no time, and at the top of our game. :)

I had a 6 foot 5 gay plumber attempt to rip me off for $6K last month.

I can't wait for the "Plumbers are Bad" thread
