The Red Sox are Champions. Get over it. I don't want to hear what ifs...maybe in a parallel universe the Astors are healthy and win but not in our reality..on a side note Go Red Sox!!!

I love the Red Sox but Bryce Harper will take my Phillies to the World Series several times over the next 10 years.

Dean,

The biggest free agent contract the Yankees signed in the off season was only a $39 million contract.
They are building up a new core of players via contract extensions like Severino and Hicks and in the
wings are Sanchez, Judge, Gregorius, all slated for extensions. Yanks have the #2 and #3 Al rookie of the year
in Andujar & Torres, plus their bullpen array is unmatched in MLB history with 6 bona fide closers. Tulowitski is
going to surprsie a lot of people filling in for Didi. Giancarlo will hit .275 and 45 -50 home runs as he settles
into his role. Judge will hit more and a 100 homers between the two is easy if they remain healthy. Then you
have Voit at 1st or Bird and I predict this is Bird's year too and don't overlook the pop in Clint Frazier's bat that has
been clocked at 127 mph. The starting rotation ranks in the top 5 in MLB and that's all they need with their bullpen.

But remember injuries before Memorial Day are a whole better than any after it. Injuries can and do
decide the fate of too many contenders in MLB but the Yankees are stacked deep to contend with it,

Man, you better hope so. With that contract they will be hamstrung for many years. Think Mets and Bobby Bonilla.

Philly is such a classy town. If he has two bad games they'll be throwin' D-cell batteries at him. He won't play 10yrs there. Book it.

Truth! Isn't this the same city that beat up Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny :D

He's not a one man difference maker but he's a nice piece. These crazy ass contracts usually don't end well though.

I just heard the other day that the Mets will still be paying Bonilla after Harper's latest contract expires. That is absolutely insane.

Bryce Harper’s contract will be an anchor on the Phillies that holds them back in the future.
He is paid an average of just under $45,000 every time he comes to the plate for the next
13 seasons.......the median household income in Philly is less than $42,000 per annum.

Bryce ce is highly ove-rated, has a juvenile attitude and has never been popular as a teammate.
The owners may like him but not the rest of the guys on the dugout bench which is where
Championships get won, not the owners box. He behaves like a teenager instead of a man.

And Machado isn’t much better but at least he is consistent and plays pretty good defense
unlike Harper. Aaron Hicks on the Yankees is better defensively, faster, better throwing arm
and is a much better teammate plus he is a switch hitter with power on both sides of the
plate. Last year Harper belted 34 homers......Hicks 27.......Harper batted .249 and Hicks was
.248.......Harper slugged .496 and Hicks was .467......Harper 137 hits last year and Hicks did
119.......Harper 103 runs......Hicks 90 runs........I could go on and on but the bottom-line is
Hicks is a better teammate, has a mature professional attitude and demeanor and is paid a
helluva lot less money too........$10 million vs. 25 million.......and Hicks started the season
slow coming off spring training DL list too.......only played 137 games vs. Bryce at 159.

Say whatever you can invent but at $15 million more per year, you can keep Bryce Harper
and I’ll go with Hicks who will only get better......can’t say as much for Bryce.......and when
Bryce becomes your DH hitter the last 4-5 years of his contract, you can keep telling yourself
it was a great acquisition.......just ask the Angels how well the Puljos has worked out for them
And he has 3 more years remaining .......27 mil this yr, $28 mil next year and $29 mil in 2021.

Salaries are just absurd and MLB needs to go to performance based contracts......earn $40
to $50 mil or 15 to $20 mil.....the difference would be in performance clauses that are “earned”
every season rather than guaranteed even when the players sucks. Keyshaw gets paid a
Million dollars ever time he gets on the mound........Zeinke gets 34.5 mil.......how about the
8 year extension Arenado just signed that pays him an average of $32.5 per year.

The Yankees can carry any payroll because they make more money than any other team.
But the Yankees aren’t doing it.......they are being smart and emulating the approach of
the early 90’s like the “Core Four” which netted them a bunch of championships. Well, the
rest of MLB should be worried because the Yankees are stacked with youth, power and
a lot of talent.......it will be more akin to like the seven from heaven cuz there’s that many.
The Yanks are built to win now and for a long time in the future......and should Trout join
them in 2021, forget about it......that would turn into a coffin nail for the AL Division.

Agreed. I would include Mookie Betts and Mike Trout in there too. I would take any of the 3 before I took Harper.
And, while I joke because I am a Red Sox fan, the Yankees should be very tough this year.

I've been a Yankee fan since 1972 (lived in Syracuse as a wee lad), but lived in Mass since 1974. I've never hated the Red Sox and am pretty happy how successful Boston has been in all sports the last 20 years.

I have no idea which of today's players even know how to chalk a cue.

I was bored today so I walked over to the Phillies vs Blue Jays game. I don't really follow either team but it was sunny and I have access to tickets anytime I want so I thought what the hell. I sure hope your Phillies pitch better when the season starts. I only stayed until the end of the third inning but the Jay's had two dingers and a 6-0 lead. Harper wasn't in the line up or in the clubhouse, but there sure was a buzz in the stands about him.

Harper is all about hype since he came up at age 19....... going to break all records.....MLB used him as a
poster boy 4 years ago but the allure has greatly diminished which is easy to understand when you have
player like Aaron Judge that comes along and steals the audience and rightfully so too. Machado hasn’t
any appeal and Bryce will have some for another 3-4 years but going to the playoffs won’t cut it in Philly.
They want a championship not just a playoff contender but one that wins and more than once too. But
make no mistake Bryce is there for filling the seats which he will do but bringing multiple championships
to Philly, well, not without a complete team make-over. He will not age well and after 5-6 years from now,
his contract will look stupid for what he contributes just like the Puljos contract right now is a horrible.
