Hello All,

This is the first time using this forum so please bare with me. I have a very unique Jack Justis 2x4 case w/2-8" pockets that is made out of real, not so live, Zebra skin (hair and all) - complete with a few minor lion scratches as it survived a lion attack. It's very cool. The last zebra case Jack sold went for $1500. I thought I'd post it on AZ Billiards before listing on eBay to see if there is any interest. I have pictures but don't know how to post them so you will have to ask. I will entertain any reasonable offers, but please, don't be silly about them. If you are worried about the transaction, I would be happy to coordinate with buyer to list on eBay with a "Buy it Now" for the agreed upon price. The buyer would only have to execute it as soon as it lists. My email is ebilliards@comcast.net, phone is 970.231.7540.

Thanks, Dave

I want to thank Simon for showing me how to post pictures. Thank you.

Hi Again,

One of the AZers suggested I post the story of this particular zebra skin, so here goes:

A guy came back from his trip from Africa with a whole Zebra pelt to display as a rug. The zebra survived a lion attack so it had very pronounced claw marks at the rump. Shortly after displaying it in his home, his 2 dogs chewed up a few of its legs, which ruined the skin for display. He took the remains to Jack Justis and said if he made him a case at no charge, prominently displaying the claw scratches, he could keep the rest of it to make cases for sale. I spoke with Jack's wife and she remembers this and said they were only able to get 2-3 more cases out of the pelt to maintain the quality that Jack demands in all of his cases. This is one of them.

It's about 5-6 years old but was never used other than store some cues in the original owner's home (as you can see from the non-usage of the feet in the pictures above). The zebra has a few claw scratches in various locations which really makes it interesting. I tried to show them in the pictures.

Thanks, Dave

Jack told me this very story at the SBE this year as I was ordering my case!

Doesn't he have a pic of it in his book?

Don't know, Barbara. But thanks for your inside knowledge. There is a picture of a zebra case on his website where he lists that zebra (when available) is $1000 upgrade to his standard case pricing, but not sure if it's from the same hide.

Pictures finally posted!

Just to let everyone know, I was finally able to post pictures of the case. See original message.

Thanks, again, Simon. Make your check out to David Gross..... :)

Thank You AZers

I just wanted to thank all of you AZers that showed interest in my case, including Simon who helped me post pictures, and the 2 folks that helped close the deal. I would be happy to post/buy other billiard related items on this furum in the future. You were all a pleasure to communicate with.

I have bought and sold stuff on eBay and it appears the members here are the cream of the "cyber" crop.

How much does his cases start at ?? with the names on them ?

The basic 2 X 4 leather case with typical tooling is $395.

Here's Jack's site - rates are shown:

My daily use case is a 2 X 4 Justis in natural. It's a great case. For casual use, he will make a pretty cool little 1 X 2 envelope case for you at $200 if you ask nicely. I'm going to order a couple of these when I get off my butt and get down to the bank - he only takes bank checks.

Zebra is a $1000 option, so you won't see too many of them. This Zebra case would go for roughly $1500 the way it's done.

I wish you would say what's on your mind instead of holding back this way. (Is it too late to take back my comment that AZers where the cream of the "cyber" crop???) :D :D :D

Nahhh...Jim S. just has bad taste. I mean, he has like 10 of those ugly cues with the cactus on the pin. I forget the name. He's just pissed off because someone else got the case.

I hunted a Zebra once. Shot him on the run from 200 paces. It was in Tijuana. A Mexican Zebra. Boy was that photographer pissed off. Did you know Zebra stripes wipe off with a damp rag?
