For those who don't yet know, John Schmidt beat Corey Deuel 13-12 in the final of the ten ball event at Valley Forge today. Deuel, who appeared to be on the brink of victory, was done in by a very unlucky skid of the five ball in the double hill rack.

Though remarkable for his fine play all weekend, John was equally impressive for his comments after the match when he addressed the crowd, calling it one of the luckiest wins of his career and offering some words of consolation to Deuel. I was very impressed by John's classy handling of this most unusual situation.

Congratulations, John, for your excellence both on and off the table.

Congrats John. You are one of the best players in the world.

Hey John, on your way back to California stop in Phoenix and play Scott Frost some one hole. You can double your winnings.

Thanks for posting this S. Nice to hear.

I couldn't believe it when Corey missed the five.
What a pill to swollow. That shot cost him 13k.

Congrats John. Maybe you should bring Marop to every event. What a good luck charm. Just kidding, you do not need a good luck charm. Great playing.

#When Corey was up 12-10 and on an unbeatable roll who called the "timeout"?

Immediately following John's dry break at 12-10, Corey took his time out. When he returned, though the rack was runnable, Corey failed to get out for the victory.

Congrats to John! :p

The few times I've heard him after a victory, he's always been well spoken and had kind things to say about his opponent. A class act for sure! :p

Congrats to John and Corey both. It's nice to see two American players in the finals of a big tournament. I would of liked to seen Corey snap it off because he hasn't had the success John has had as of late. But, maybe he will win the next one. Does anybody know if Corey is focusing on pool a little more than he was a couple years ago?

I couldn't watch the stream and would definitely like to see the final match. I wonder if it is gonna be available at AZBTV later? Mike, Jerry, anyone?
oh, and congrats to the winner, our AZer John Schmidt. Every his new success makes me regret deeper and deeper that he decided not to go to the Philippines when I was visiting WPC one year. I'm desperately dreaming of a straight pool lesson with one of the best in this game.
DCC One Pocket (Efren's banner holder?), Players' Champ... Nice start of a year John!

And 2 or 3 smaller tournaments that he has won also. He always seems to cash. Johnnyt

The problem with 20K for first and 7K for second is it demands a deal be made. They may have chopped the whole thing. If not, I'm betting a major saver was made. It only makes sense. Nothing against either player, in fact it would be dumb to do otherwise in this situation. If I was in with one of these guys, I would want a saver, minimum 3K.

You would think after all these years, promoters would learn how to distribute the money properly so that savers are not a necessary evil. I posted something to that effect when the prize money breakdown was being discussed. One problem with a situation like this, now you cannot bet on this match. Some of the incentive for the players is missing.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm a realist.

Vahmurka and others: The various azbtv streams have been saved to hard disk and will be made available at some point as a free download, from what I understand.
