Just Playing The Game vs. The Science

Keith...was there ever a point in your pool playing life that it became painfully obvious that you weren't going to rise to your potential just by rolling balls into the hole and learning shots unless you studied the science of this game through physics and geometry and applied it to everything else you knew?
How have the new eye opening theories on deflection written by the top Ph.D.'s in the country who play pool improved your shot making skills?

Keith says to JAM: "Hey JAM...whaddaya think I should say on that thread about science or just playing the game"?

JAM says to Keith: "IF you answer it...it's like a nightmare...just gonna keep getting worse and worse".

Keith: "Hey...that's MY line...do you want to start paying me royalties"?

JAM: "Hey sidearm...do you want to start making your own dinner? Shut up"!

Keith: "Well, I still don't know what to do or say".

JAM: "Looks like you might be getting set up".

Keith: "Huh...what's a setup....I don't quite understand".

JAM: "Give me a break...it's when you make someone think they're getting the nuts, and they ain't".

Keith: "Wha....you mean people really do that kind of thing"?

JAM: "What have I gotten myself into. Do I have to teach you EVERYTHING"?

Keith: "Can you do that with players when you're at the table playing pool"?

JAM: "I think so...let's go out tonight and give it a try."

Keith: "OK...I hope it works. I'm not sure if I can pull it off though. In the mean time, I'm not gonna answer that thread".

Drivermaker speaking: "Wise choice Keith...besides, sometimes the UNSPOKEN word rings volumes louder than anything that could be said and has much greater impact and truth behind it".

Keep whuppin' those butts out there by just rollin' that ball in the pockets. ;)

I never realized the geometry and the science in the game. All I ever did was just shoot shots for shots and then learned with the cue-ball as it went on. I always had better results by watching somebody who was really good, and then I would go off on my own and try to master all the englishes in order to know how to get to the next ball. As you know, a shot is no good if you can't get to the next shot.

As far as the deflection goes, I've played with a few Meuccis, and they do have a lot of deflection, but I don't like to have to use deflection in order to make a ball. I'd much rather have a little stiffer hit on the cue-ball.

When you have to go off angles and use your inside lefts, your outside rights, that deflection really comes into play. It's a lot easier for me to stroke the ball with a stiffer hit. I get through the cue ball a lot better.

Hey Keith...thanks for the reply. I always enjoy observing your rhythm and speed as you work your way around the table. Definitely a fun player to watch in more ways than one.
