Well, after reading Fatboy's posts about there not being any action around Los Angeles, I was rather disappointed, because I am here now for the first time and want to play. If anyone has a suggestion on where to go, or if anyone wants to play some, I will be here for the rest of the week. PM me or call my cell @ 405_408_2308

For those fearing I might be some sleeper world beater, I'm not. I just have a little bit too much gamble , and I am known to play guys I am not supposed to beat. Besides, I lost over $3K on the poker tables @ Commerce and I doubt playing $20/game one hole could hurt too much.

Fatboy just bets too high for most in LA. at under $100 per set 9 ball or $20 a game one pocket, you can find as much action as you can handle at hardtimes and house of billiards respectively. Just take note that you probably wont find an easy game anywhere.

Its not that, they take it way too serious for $40, and then want a lock up game, they wont flip a coin for $20-thats proof puddin' they aint got no gamble. Who wants to be in action thats not action?, its a heist or stick up.

I took the worst of it everyday to learn to play, and thats ok. to a point. But a day comes where I want to play a even game for more than sushi costs. And then I'll still take the worst of it sometimes-but not everyday anymore.

and they all pay big rent to live in LA, nice cars, etc there is $$$ here, dont worry about that. There are gamblers here in LA too, just not in pool, the card rooms have perhaps the strongest poker players anywhere in the world and they have gamble. i seen the pai-gow games there too. Huge action. Bigger than me.

Come to think of it i think i'm gonna go hit some Asian joints looking for action(I'll be strapped-count on that)

the sad fact is the pool action in La is history, and I understand why now(took me some time to figure it out), if you book a loser, you might not have a chance to win it back from someone else in 6 months. there has to be action to have action; it feeds on itself and now its gone.

There has to be action to have action. When there aint action how do you get it going? take a chance? you cant do that here because for what ever reason the gamblers all left the pool rooms and whats left behind are locksmiths. I know I was one for years, I had to be-it was that or God forbid a "Job", that aint ever gonna happen, so I played lock up pool. I know it well and know it when I see others do it. And thats all I see in LA. Lock-up pool, its wide spread in Vegas too b/c the joints get all the $$$, so when they get to the pool room they are bust outs looking for a lock. I was glad to get out of Vegas for that reason. I am sure disappointed in pool action in LA. I beat a guy one time for a bit over $1000 now he wants to change the game, i'll beat him again and then he will never play me again ever. So he has to bet it up cause I know its the last time he will play me. Lock-up pool, been there done that, and they think I aint wise to that shit, what ever. I've been around 100X longer than they think.

The poker rooms got the action, good for them, sucks I dont like card rooms.

Well thank you for the very detailed description of the scene. I am telling you now though, that I aint a locksmith, and I am here to gamble. If you would like to play some, I can't play more than like $100/set though because like you said, the card rooms got all of the (my) money. Hell, give me a call if you just want to shoot the shit or whatever.

People in LA generally gamble either because they want to have a good time or they want to make money. You aren't going to find anyone among either groups who wants to flip for cash because flipping for cash is neither fun nor a money making venture. Its just gambling for the sake of gambling, which is honestly kind of stupid.

There are plenty in LA who would play a set for 50 or 100 if its a close game, you just have to sort out the guys who are making a living off the game from the guys who are just out to have fun. Your problem is probably that everybody just wants to get in your pockets so its tough for you to make a fair game. When you roll up in a rolls and are wearing a multi-thousand dollar watch, you generally scare away most of the casual guys because they figure you bet out of their league and have the vultures licking their chops. That is not what you want if you truly want a fair game.

I agree with most of what you said, but the real key there I learned, and i think what many of the players there operate on as well (besides the master jimmi), is match up rarely, match up strong, and book nothing but winners to offset the lack of action (ie in the long run, would kinda even out this way).

I agree with you though, just giving some insight. The problem is, and i'm stealing these words from a friend of mine, "if you turned the whole place upside down you couldn't shake 40 dollars out of the joint."

BTW, I could recommend a joint or two to the op and fatboy too would love. Barbox but you're gonna get all the lay you want, and I do mean all you want -- even fatboy. PM me if you're up for it.... about 20 minutes from hard times.

You can get $50-100 a game One Pocket action any day of the week at House of Billiards in Santa Monica. There are often sets there for $1,000 or more. You will be playing a good player, but one who has money (Wayne, Phil, Rich. others). If they know how you play they will give you a handicap. I played Phil about six months ago for $40 a game and he was willing to bet more. He gave me 9-7 and we broke even. A very nice guy to play with, as is Wayne. Rich is a bit more competitive but he is good action also. I wouldn't call any of these guys lock artists as I've seen them in tough games with very good players. Rich will play just about anyone who comes through the door for $100 a game. Last guy I watched him gamble with was Brandon Shuff.

Last guy I saw Phil in serious action with was Jose Parica, getting some small weight. Wayne is like Rich, he will play just about anyone. A good player can get a game there, and has a chance to win something. Maybe not millions, but a couple of grand (or more) is possible.

P.S. Efren rarely comes to L.A. without visiting the HOB and playing someone. Super (Ernesto) tough tables with 4" pockets. Perfect for One Hole.

Thanks for the info Jay. I'll stop by there tomorrow. And hey, I left my cell number in the opening post if you'd like a cheapish game.

@ Chinchilla, PM sent

I just got back tonight and am suffering some serious jet lag right now. It is always harder for me when I come back from the PI. If you're around in a couple of days maybe we can get together. There is a good room down my way (Mr. Lucky's) which is great for One Pocket. Many guys in there like to play, but maybe for only ten or twenty a game. Also "Ernesto" tough tables. I've lived here for over 7 years and only had two money games in there. I made the mistake of playing the best player (Johnny Kang) first and since then no one asks me to play. I got a little the best of that One Pocket game (won more games), even though he got even in the end. I also played Jeff Livingston Eight Ball on the Diamond smart table (7') and he gave me a drubbing.
