I prefer the endless one.

lathe belt

Joey....Leather belting is still available thru industrial suppliers in various widths and thicknesses. Get the correct length of belting, and make a lap joint (shave each end at an angle, overlap ends and glue). They work great and you dont have to pull the spindle out to install it. I used this method on an old South Bend lathe about 18 years ago and it still works.

I found the 3/8 belt somewhere, can't recall at the moment. I'll try to find where I got it.

That would be great. I was going to just buy it and try to get rid of what I didn't need on ebay. It's expensive but worth it. I also have it on my table saw.

If I read it right that belt is .o31 thick. Am I looking at the right belt? Would a belt 1 1/8 inch wide and 1/4 inch thick work?
Yes, it's only 31 thou thick.
It seems pretty sturdy. I figure I'd try it and if it snaps, I just switch to the non-endless type like Paul suggested.
1 1/8 wide won't work as it will hit the walls in the small main pulley.
Thx Mac.
1 inch wide would be perfect.
