Leather ringwork

I always thought it would be neat to install a Martin/Tad/Zylr style ring on a Plain Jane above the buttcap, but made from leather. Maybe sandwiched by two veneers. Has anyone tried to make ringwork from leather?

I know it's been done with knife handles etc, but those shrink over time without proper care. I think it would be alright if it was soaked epoxy, then pressed in a vice. What are your thoughts, experts?

Well, nothing new under the sun it appears. I hadn't seen that thread, though I did a search before asking here. Thanks Chopdoc for the link. If I get around to the ringwork idea, I'll post results and pics...

I was fascinated with that thread and have been hoping to see more such work. When I saw your post I immediately thought of it.

Please do post anything you do with leather rings.

I remember visiting Joe Porper in the 90's. He was doing a few cues with leather rings for wrap sections.

Hi-

Good to see you comment here.

I have been fascinated since first seeing this several years ago.

As a cue maker, any thoughts about why we don't see more of this technique?

People do seem to be impressed with it at least superficially. I know I am.

Although is different and kind of unique. It's sought of a pain to epoxy all of them.

I have a partially built cue of Joe's with the rings glued up. It went out of style when Tiger found an easier, and more stable, way to achieve the look.
