Would the guys who've watched him play put 'em on a par with Alcano and Orcullo?

slight weaker... but ahead of valle;)
Thanks. Any other Filipino player that you think might measure up to Orcullo/Alcano? De Luna, Gabica, anyone?

These are players unknown to most of us here in the States, that's why I'm asking. Appreciated again.

Supposedly Corteza is right up there around Orcullo and Alcano's level, if you ask a Filipino who knows them well. That's what I've been told.

I would have to agree with cuetechasaurus. He barbequed Tony Watson and Kuo Po Cheng at the US Open giving up weight.

without a doubt... i had to play him 1st round in the open and he's awesome, i also watched him play tony and kou and i don't ever remember him missing a ball. he easily ran right over those guys with a smile on his face... after he beat kuo he walked up to him and gave him a high five like "no hard feelings buddy"... van van is a really nice guy, like most of the filipinos, but he'll murder you on the pool table.

it's just mind-boggling the amount of talent coming out of Asia right now that we in the U.S. aren't even aware of. I'm trying to take account of who those players are, but it's difficult.

I would say Corey, Alex, Thorsten, Manalo, Orcullo, Yang, Wu, and Alcano are the most talented young players in the world today. Sometimes I'm tempted to put Stalev on that list, but he certainly doesn't have achivements on U.S. soil like the other guys.

But now you guys are telling me Lee Van compares...and I imagine there's a lot more I don't know about. That's why I asked about De Luna and Gabica. Thanks.

You hardly hear from them because they belong to the "second tier" group of talents just as talented but less well-known. Their more famous counterparts are usually given the first preference by the government and sponsors.

Not to mention there probably about a dozen of younger pool players like Valle who are no longer afraid to challenge the elite players in money games.
