LoJack For Cues?

With all of the theft of cues/cases going on, it sure would be nice if LoJack would invent something for cues. Maybe something under the joint or inlaid under the wrap. I know it would probably never work.

You could always put one in your case, but that would mean you'd only get your case back.

How about we just shoot all of the theives, maybe that would work the best.

This is one thing that surprises me. How do people get their cues/cases stolen?

Jim - I put my 44 year old Balabushka in the Bank Vault. I bought a Lucasi (that now that I'm used to it) plays just as good - GREAT.
I no longer have to worry everytime I go someplace and put my case down. Only problem is that everyone knew of my Balabushka and may steal my cue - not knowing.
How about one of those exploding red die packs that banks use?

If someone can steal $37K from UNDER the table. - How hard would it be for A Cue?

Exactly. Especially with that many eyes on it....

btw - who stuck an extra $3K in it?

How about ...

A tiiny remote controlled buzzer in the buttcap like those ones to find
lost keys ... They could have ones for cases too...

I kinow some people just wander off and forget where their equipment is
when they are in their home billiard room. This would help locate it for them,
and be a safeguard when in a not so familiar billiard room.

The exploding dye might keep the creep from selling the Balabushka but what would the dye do to the value of the cue? I like the bank vault.

I like the shooting the bastards idea best. After beating them.

How do people get their cues stolen?

Let me see:

1. Steal the whole freakin trailer while a cuesmith is helping folks out at the BCA in Vegas. Whatever happened to this story by the way, I thought they might be getting closer to finding out when someone brought the guys' own cue back to him to fix.

2. Break into a car on the one day in a year some dumbass leaves it in there (that would be me)

3. Break into a house a steal the entire collection of cues while no one's home. This was a friend in San Diego

4. Walk away from 2K in cues while driving home the turkey sandwich and fries you got at the hall...another SD story. Seems people leave cues in pool halls pretty often and they are almost NEVER returned unless a friend sees it before the local thieves.

5. Didn't Sarah Rousey have some stuff stolen lately at a tourney- I think there was a thread just a few weeks ago about it.

6. Josh Palmer posts on this site and he had a bunch of stuff stolen out of his car/truck while he away for just a short while.

Like I said, shoot them. After beating them.

Some security shops sell devices meant to help you keep track of your kids. A transmitter and receiver that atach to the kid and to you. If they get more than a certain distance apart an alarm sounds. You could put the transmitter on your case.

Only drawback that I know of is that they are made to look like a smal teddy bear....but what a babe magnet....

Rosco - You were not supposed to say that!

I was hoping to get a posting from the Boston area saying -
"Hey, don't start any shit with me & my boys!
It was only $34K & you know it.
Man this shit could get me killed".

YOU BLEW IT ROSCO!

There are "chips" that pet owners can have implanted into their pets that when scanned, relay info about the owner, pedigree, health...etc.

It would be beyond easy for cue makers to imbed such a chip into the cue's construction, making it impossible to remove without destruction of the cue.

Your average joe doesn't have the ways and means to read this chip, much less change the info contained in it.

As I recall, the chip itself only cost 30$ ( or so ) and IMO would be a great investment as a part of a high dollar cue.

Yeah, but you need to see it to scan it. A photo at home and a pistolio in the face would be equally effective. Sorry, I need more food/ less coffEEEE.
the pet-chip is a (small) step in the right direction, but what if the cue is sold multiple times?
A lojack type device wold allow the cue to be tracked, as opposed to authenticated.

Check out SmartWater

There's a property marking system apparently being very succesful in the UK called "Smartwater". Basically it is a clear liquid that can be applied to virtually anything that contains a complex physical code that is registered to the owner and cannot easily be removed. What was really interesting is a spray version that can coat criminals on the scene of a break in and identify them hours or days later.

They are not marketing in the USA yet (I asked) but it looks like it could be an ideal solution.

Do you only play pool at home? ;)

Don't have a table at home. When I go out to play I keep my cue with me. If I go to the toilet I ask somebody I know to keep an eye on it. They also have video cameras there and can go back and pull it up on a computer if they need to. I'm in a high crime area, maybe I'm a little more careful for that reason. If you leave your car running in your driveway the police give you a ticket, theives drive the neighborhoods looking for that kind of stuff. I know somebody who had their car stolen from their driveway by an 11 year old kid.

I simply wasn't aware that it was such a major problem and was trying to figure out what people are doing to get their stuff stolen.
