Isnt everyone looking for Mr. Searings cues!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

I'm not trying to take anything from Mr. Searing or any cuemakers. I'm sure he makes a great cue but how good is his cue in real life? For example I heard alot about South West cue until I finally save up some $ and bought it. The hit is not all that.

Now all cue maker will say my cue hits the best but when a customer wants to try his cue, I mean hit balls with his cue, he doesn't have one and you have to be putted on a waiting list.

All this people that said that this or that cuemaker makes a great hitting cue, have they actually ever hit with one? Like Searing cue for example, alot of people said his cue hits great but have they actually go to a pool room and hit balls with it?

Just my thought

I know exactly what you are saying but there are an awful lot of Searing owners on this board and I have yet to hear a single one of them say the hit was less than superior.
Although, that does not mean that everyone will love it. To each their own, which is basically what you were saying, I think.

Thank you for understanding my thought. I wish there is a cue store that has stock of cues from all of these great cuemakers. I mean I wish a customer can just walk in to a store, deposit some $ (to protect the seller), states which group of cue in his budgets and makers, hit some balls with it and purchases it on the spot. I don't mind driving 5-6 hrs to visit a store like that. You know like buying a car. Before you can look for a Mercedes, they will check your credit first. If you're worthy, they will show you the good stuff.

Hit is subjective. If you saved up your money and finally bought a Southwest and didn't like the hit, that doesn't mean that the cue doesn't deserve the reputation or the wait list. It just means possibly that you don't like large pins with flat faced joints and a stiffer hit. But trust me, there are plenty of people that look for that hit and will pay dearly to play a new Southwest every couple of years.

And not all Southwests will hit the same?? What was the shaft taper, the tip, the ferrule and the balance point on the cue?? The type of wood used for the forearm?? Southwest will use a maple prong and that cue will hit differently than one with an ebony prong.

All I'm trying to say is that one shouldn't judge any cue based solely on one example.

With regards to Mr. Searing, small production and high demand equal a long wait. Ditto for Richard Harris, Joel Hercek, Szamboti and a bunch of others. Hopefully you'll not only buying a great playing cue with these guys, but you're getting a valuable piece of functional art that will be a joy to own.

Dennis also told me that he didn't want any $$ for a cue he makes until the new owner is happy with it. That includes the hit. I asked if he had any sitting around his shop that had been returned and he laughingly said, "No. None right now." lol

No money down for the cue that he makes? Wow, great cuemaker.

Jef...those are called "Half Joints" for your knowledge. I have been lucky enough to own 1/2 a dozen Searings...none played less than AWESOME. The wait is brutal but not as long as SouthWest...of which I owned so many I couldnt give an accurate number.

Saint, Dennis wont take a down payment and no great cuemaker should unless your asking for something extreme. Just so ya know...IMO, most cuemakers are nutz and the nuttier they are normally the better their cues are!!

Lmao!

I've heard it's the fumes they breath in while laying down finish...who knows? But generally speaking I think you're correct!

Well I'll be happy to tell you how good his cue is in real life. Good enough to make me put a 16 year old southwest and a 20 year old TAD away in the closet.
I think the previous sentence pretty much covers my feeling on the hit. Mine is rather simple looking with 4 brazilian rosewood points and an ivory hoppe ring with the ss half joint. But what amazes me is how dead nuts even the razor sharp points are and the grain in the ivory ring is awesome. The shaft wood quality is top notch and if you ever get a chance to screw 1 together...Well i won't ruin it for you but the last 2 or 3 turns are in my mind what it's all about.
Just my two pennies.

Well, all in all, you guys are giving really positive feedback on searing cues, I am also on the list but I am eager to get one for a try.... Still is anyone willing to let go his searing? ;)
