Looking for tight corners and 90 mph

I am new to this forum and hope I can get some questions answered. I don't mind paying a professional to do the job but want to be knowledgable enough to see that things are up to par.

I have a Gandy 9' 'sportsman' with the seperate legs (as opposed to the GC style) and need to have a carpet replacement. The table plays good, but not like the GC's or even the Gandy's in the pool rooms I play at. They all play much tighter and super fast compared to mine. My pockets have been shimmed and I have 760 on it, but can't understand how it can be so different.

Since I now have to take the table down to replace the carpet underneath it's time to get it dialed. How do you know if/when rails need to be replaced? Can longer rails be installed to tighten up the pockets? If so is this advisable? Can a simple restretch of the cloth change the speed dramatically? What is a reasonable amount of time to expect the set up to last as far as staying level, true, and playing well? What should I expect from a good mechanic?

Other background, the table is probably almost 20 years old, in immaculate condition (I am the only player on it 99.99%) and I live in the desert (Scottsdale, Az)

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. TYIA

I sent you a pm about Gandy parts for upgrades and better ways of fixing your table.

Thanks Craig,

I'm new to this so I'll go look for it. I appreciate the response.

I am guessing your table is in a basement or attic area. If it is in a area like this, you will never get your table to play like others in pool halls. The best you could do is keep the 760 and add Artemis rubber. Stretch the cloth with a tow truck and hope for the best LOL. No, seriously, if it in a well climate controlled room with these, it will play the best that it can.
Thanks, Ron

If it still has the original Raybestos rubber, you should be good to go for a while. Out of all the Gandy's I bought last year, not one of them had bad rubber.
These tables play jam up with Artemis! If you're getting the table done right, you'll need new rubber when extending the subrail which will help out tremendously with tightening your pockets correctly.
I'm not sure who is currently in your area, but if you look at the mechanics directory in this forum, you should be able to find who is close.
Some of us have been doing alot with Gandy's in the last year, and can probably answer any questions you may have, as well as the best places to get parts or whatever for upgrades, and some solid ideas on how to get your table fixed up right.

Nope no tow truck for me :D :D ....it's in the family room off the kitchen. Not too many basements here in Az, and the a/c is going on any minute now 110? today  I'm just going to have it restretched soon and see if it helps. If not I'll get to the rubber and new cloth next time. Thanks for responding to all and the PM's.
