I've seen the Color of Money many times as have most
posters here on Az I suspect. Anyway, I'd thought that
I knew all the pool players that made an appearance in
the film: Mizerak, McCready, Jimm Mataya, Vickory,
Sigel...am I forgetting anyone? Well, tonight it
was on TV and I noticed that in the scene where Eddie
is on line to register for the tournament in Atlantic
City, right behind him is a man that looks just like
Louie Roberts. Can anyone confirm this? It's right
when they first show Eddie in line, a little after
when he pays at the desk there's a different guy
behind him though.

That was Louie Roberts standing in line during the Atlantic City scene in the movie. Keith said he talked to him every day on the set and that Louie was actually in TWO scenes.

Bobby, another player who was in the movie is Grady Mathews.

Gold star goes to WHO can remember his line!

Mark Jarvis is another pool player who was in this movie. I met him for the first time last year in Toledo at the Glass City Open. Now a working family man, he recently returned to the pool scene, and he's still got game.

Jarvis contributed many hours of his time to the Challenge the Pro charity table in the front lobby at the GCO, and he not only appreciated being asked by Tom Gearhart, the GCO promoter, but he told me later that he had a really good time.

Mark is the "Guy at Janelle's." Anybody remember his line?

Jarvis is the player in the middle, between Earl and Keith, depicted below! :p

I think that the line was something to do with offering Fast Eddie a shot of whiskey or some other wheat distillate. "Another shot for my friend, Eddie." I think.

Louie Roberts is standing behind Paul Newman in line when they are signing up for the tournament. When Eddie is playing Kennedy, if you watch closely, Louie is shooting on the next table.

Grady: Five of us were on a road trip to, San Antonio. We couldn't get any action so we all ended up playing each other.

Freddie the Beard said on a tape that Mark Jarvis used to be one of the top bankers in the world at one point. Anyone have any stories of him playing Piggy,Bugs,Hogue or other legends?

Right! I can't believe I forgot about Grady!

Thanks JAM, I didn't see his name on the IMDb
cast list for the film and was starting to think
I'd imagined it was Louie.

Bobby, seems I dogged this one. So much for the scientific method. Figured he'd have been in the credits if he'd appeared. After all, he did win the US Open!

Anyway, I'd like to see his name added to the credits, so I filled out the update form on the Internet Movie Data Base (imdb.com) requesting that his name be added. Hope they comply. Says they could take up to 28 days to review the request.

Grady said to Eddie, immeidately after losing "Buy you one?" Eddie's reply was "I'll buy you one." They were talking about alcoholic beverages, of course!

One of the top bankers? Kind of a JP Morgan of pool?

Just kidding. Jarvis actually does appear in the movie credits.

My guess is that he would be considered an extra, and consequently no credit. Of course as an extra whose face can be seen, he would be entitled to a bit more of a fee than an anonymous extra in the middle of a crowd. Those with lines get more $ yet, and perhaps that's when you also get a credit. I think this is all covered by the actors union contract. Considering the theme of the movie and the stature of the man, a credit might have been in order anyway !

a minor story,,,,,nothing really about MJ.

ed young, before he started building cues, used to back players and set up matches. being familiar with THAT area of chicago, he took jarvis to play bugs. bugs was not there and the match never happened but mj DID play the "second best" there, and beat him.

what was fascinating about ed young's account was that whenever jarvis was at the table, someone was always talking to him or bumping into him. SOME GUY EVEN CAME UP TO HIM AS HE WAS DOWN ON A SHOT AND OFFERED TO SELL HIM SOME HOT WATCHES!!!!!! ie,,,someone just stuck his hand in front of jarvis and showed him the watches, WHILE JARVIS WAS SHOOTING :D

now THAT,,,,,,,,,is some blatant sharking :):):).

Did, Ed, say who he thought was the second best banker in Chicago, Bruin?

So far, Kokopuffs comes close to getting the Gold Star for providing the quote in "The Color of Money." :p

Confirmed. He is introduced as the returning champion.
