In case you haven't heard there was a major Typhoon (same as a hurricane) that hit the Philippines this past weekend, and another one due this coming weekend. Manila and the surrounding areas hasn't been hit this hard in over forty years. Most of the city of 15-18 million people is under water.

All of our filipino friends have been affected by this. Many lives have been lost and homes destroyed. The way we can help is through the Red Cross. They have a fund set up for Philippine disaster relief. The infrastructure is not that good over there and the government can only do so much. Think Katrina. That's how bad it is now in Manila. And it will only get worse in the coming weeks I'm afraid.

I finally got hold of Bunny yesterday. She is at her grandmothers apartment on the third floor. The water is up to the second floor level. Pretty scary when you can't even swim. I wish I could do something to help her but I can't from 7000 miles away. Yes, I am worried about them.

Sad news Jay, I hope everyone is ok. I just finished watching CNN and from the look of the living conditions, it didn't appear good before the storm.

Can you imagine the U.S. putting the Iraq man power and money into this disaster for a week. It would do way more good than 100 years in Iraq.

Panalangin namin ang iyong madaliang paggaling.

(Our Prayers for your speedy recovery)

My Local as well as National news has been covering the story. 5 years and one month ago I also was in the Eye of Hurricane Charlie here in Florida. Followed by 3 more Hurricanes that touched my area with in a month of Hurricane Charlie. But I only have a small idea what the People of the Philippines are going through. Even Hurricane Katrina that hit New Orleans wasn't as big as this one with the High High water flooding.

Thanks for the information, Jay! I will try to keep to keep them all in my thoughts for a while. I mostly avoid the news on tv and this is the first I had heard. Hope Bunny's ok.

When I saw this on the news yesterday I wondered how bad it was in the major cities and if people like Efren & the other pro's were effected. Then I remembered you tie to the PI, Jay, and my thoughts got more serious. I hope all turns out OK for you & your loved ones.

I will make a donation to this very needy cause, and encourage others who can to do so as well. Thanks Jay.

Take care,

Will Prout

I encourage all of you to help out any way possible.....

I caught word of this while I was out in San Diego. My mom called me and told me what was going on and that my cousins and aunts and uncles living there are all and accounted for thank GOD.

Thanks for the link to Red Cross, Jay.

I have so far got the news that minimum 1 pro and 1 referee from the pool-community in Manila is affected by this, with water destroying atleast the first floor in their houses, with more reports on it's way.

I thought about starting a similiar thread like this, asking for donations to help those in our community, but perhaps the best thing to do is to donate as much as possible to the Red Cross.

God bless the Filipinos. My thoughts and prayers goes to each and everyone of them.

Those dirty waters that flooded Manila is full of different kinds of bacterias. It will take sometime for them to recover from this calamity. Some parts of Manila still has no cellphone and internet signals. It's just sad really sad....

This is terrible and I can only imagine what they must be going through. I went through Hurricane Hugo here in Charleston, SC back in 1989 and it was a nightmare to put it mildly. We didn't have the flooding like you are describing, but it looked like a bomb went off where I live. I didn't have electricity for over 4 weeks and that was like living in a third world country.

My prayers go out to the people in the Philippines and like you said other than donate to the Red Cross there's not much we can do.

James

Another big storm is brewing in the Pacific now and heading their way. It looks like Manila will absorb a one-two punch of devastating Typhoons. I'm VERY concerned about the aftermath when there is no safe drinking water and a shortage of all supplies. It could be like Katrina was here, only far worse. I feel like I should be on a plane going over there. But even the airport is iffy right now.

Thank you all for your concern and your donations. All our friends in the Philippines need our support now. I gave money to the American Red Cross International Response Fund. The Red Cross is already in operation over there, setting up many evacuation and relief centers.

Those dirty waters that flooded Manila is full of different kinds of bacterias.

We had plenty of guys have to take tetanus shots after Hurricane Floyd because they were in flood waters. The hotels we stayed at we were told not to drink the water, I was so freaked I didnt even shower. There was nothing but dead animals and water everywhere. In less than a week from the time we left North Carolina, most of the guys that got wet had rashes, etc. from the bacteria.
