I choke on the eightball so much that it's ridiculous!
I have such a reputation that if someone bricks the eightball,
another person says,"You Saxed it".:p :D

How do shoot the money ball?
How do you make the eightball ? (Most of the time!!!!)

Any Input????????

MAKING THE MONEY BALL!!!!!!

-Think of the moneyball as any other ball!! -develope strong internal mental control of thoughts & emotions!!!!

-Focus on the machanics of the shot!!!

-Plan better shape on the shot!!!! - 2 to three ft, straight in or less than 30 dregrees!

-Plan on cue ball position, alter you pocket the moneyball!!!

-Practice shooting only the moneyball (eight) from all positions/ angles!!!!

-ONLY POSITIVE THOUGHTS!!!!! (IF NOT THEIR, STAND UP-RESET-DEEP BREATH-REFOCUS)

thank you for all of the input!!!!!!!!!

Stop Saxin' it. lol Just kidding. You seem to be playing the 8 ball different from the way you shoot the other balls. You have to try and think of every ball the same way. If you keep thinking about the 8 ball like that you are never going to stop saxin' it. My guess is that you are thinking - I am on the 8 I better not miss or I hope I dont miss. Maybe try thinking - I am on the 8 I am going to make this. JMO. I used to think that way and ever since I stopped thinking that way my game has improved a great deal.

Don't ever, ever, ever, ever (pause for breath) ever miss the money ball.

Forget about the trophy, money, accolades, etc. and focus on the shot on the table. The money ball is no different than any other ball on the table, unless you perceive it that way.

Focus on your mechanics, and get the exact pinpoint contact point on the object ball and burn it into your mind. Take your time. Tell yourself, "I'm making this shot!"

Now get out there and do it!

I had the same problem, and an old wise man told me. Doesn't matter if you are high's or low's, just remember you have 8 balls on the table and not 7. Think of the 8 ball as just another ball to make, don't think of it as "the money ball" or "this one for the win".

Another way I've improved my choking is during practice. I always have the 8 ball on the table when I practice. During practice sessions, the 8 ball is the ball I shoot the most. Let your eyes and mind get use to seeing that little black ball, so during a match its just like on the practice table.

I've had this problem, but had several different answers from several people, you have to decide what works for you:

Shoot some straight pool - helps u remained focused without having to draw on it when u need it.... it's already there.

Shoot a rotation game like 9 or 10 - just because ur on the eight ball, u still need a plan of action... uh like protecting the cue ball. :)

Re-evaluate your fundamentals/pre-shot routine - if it's because ur just missing the eight, it could be ur treating it not the same as the other balls.

I chose the first of the three as str8 pool would give me more benefits than the other two.... but of course when i played str8 pool, i did keep one goal in mind. As that goal was accomplished, I used it again to obtain the other goals.

Hope that helps.

Yup...what he said.

You got the wrong stuff in your head...or at least I did when I caught this spell which I expect is a natural phase for the up and comer.

YOU WILL GET WHATS IN YOUR HEAD.This I believe to be an absolute fact.If I'm to be convinced otherwise it will happen after I'm dead cause it it aint happening while I'm still playing.

If for one minute you are considering what happens if I miss...you will soon find out.

The money ball is the easiest if considered correctly.....there is no leave needed. The money ball plays to the back of the hole without throw, cheat or power or touch....unless you are begging off a scratch.

Two things you need to do imo..or perhaps need to change.

One: See the shot.Know you got it and stroke it to prove it (there is no hope invloved it the process)..if it stays up you should be astonished...not thinking "well there it is again!"...Really.KNOW IT.Otherwise come off the shot and reset.

2:Be willing (find the desire) to punish your opposition.I mean cripple em...in seriuos matches this will come with confidance and a need to prove yourself, but flubbing the closing ball is major weakness imo regardless of the opponent.

You like to play but are indifferent to winning imo.
The game is not shoot well and hope at the end...the game is shoot well and win.

The eight ball is usually the easiest ball on the table. Most of the other balls are gone.

There is no such thing as choking, only not being good enough to get shape or make the ball. Work on your shape and ball pocketing and this will soon disappear.

you could also pretend that theres still another ball on the table. since the majority of your previous shots also include position, pretend youre trying to get position on a ball thats within the natural lines of the ball path--so your main concern is ball speed.

Potentially this can get you thinking about the right things.

I've been in your situation - was in it for a long time. It's only in recent months that I've been pulling out of it (though I did shank a couple of easy 8-balls the other night in a tournament, dangit).

It's pretty much 100% mental. You've got that "this is it!" thought in your head, and you don't want to goof it up, and that just makes you goof it up all the more.

When you get on the eight, take a little more time than you normally do for a shot - look at it, and BREATHE. Get some air going in your lungs. It'll help relax you a bit. I used to basically be holding my breath when lining up on the 8 and shooting it. I'm much more relaxed now on those shots, I breathe better, and I sink'em much much more often now.

Just keep playing, you'll make it sooner or later...and it's only going to get better from there. It's no big deal, it's just another ball.

Misinformation on choking abounds...

Totally incorrect information. In the expert class, of our pool schools, we teach six different "choke syndromes"; how they manifest themselves in your game; and how to overcome each one. :D

When I shoot the moneyball, I try to play position for the footspot or headspot depending on where I am. Another route is to play for the center of the table. On this route you can not scratch. We play position on all other shots. The brain knows this. It mustn't change.

Just spend one day shooting at the 8 all types of different shots,im sure you will become friends.;) Its all psychological my friend.:)

I agree with Fast Lennys advice; practice the 8 ball only from all possible angles/positions.
I believe the eye perceives the 8 ball differently being solid black, and makes it much harder to focus on the impact point of the 8 ball. Try to take a little longer to set for the shot and don't be afraid to reset if someone walks in front of you in a busy pool room.

During your run, make sure the the last ball of your run is the closest/close to the 8 ball. This should put you in a position to play stop or limited roll to get leave on the 8 ball. I always try to leave the cue about 2-3 feet from the 8 ball, anywhere from straight to no more than 30 degrees. This gives me a shot that I can hit at a medium to slow pace, and I don't have to worry about a scratch. Shorter, easier shots are higher percentage and build confidence for the tougher ones.

It seems too many people get a bit nervous on the 8, so they hit the ball way too hard....where they scratch, or make in another pocket....

My two cents....good luck...

I used to have this problem w/ the 9 ball. What worked for me is this: I would practice w/ just the 9 ball, I would set up shot after shot after shot w/ just the 9 ball until I expected to see the yellow striped ball go into the pocket.

Sounds stupid but it worked for me.

My biggest problem on moneyballs is one thing...

STAY DOWN ON THE BALL!

I tend to lift my head real early, anxious like im trying to crush a onster drive on the golf course and i want to make sure i see where it goes and end up putting it 3 fairways over...

Just stay down and shoot like its worth 50k :D

I'm going to say something different here. Its the money ball and there is nothing wrong with looking at it differently. You might have a slight raise in blood pressure and you might also be a bit tenative since its the 8 rather than any one other ball.

You need to spend some time evaluating what you feel when you get to the 8 ball. I used to choke a lot on the 8 and I've learned to settle myself down by aknowledging that yes it is in fact the 8 ball and yes I need to finish my run right on this shot. I've learned to step back at times if I'm not comfortable and re chalk my cue and get back down and take my shot in proper timing.

Just step back and settle yourself down. Wait a second until the fear passes and you can refocus. This will get easier.

Buy Some 8 Balls

Practice using only 8 Balls. Running them out over & over will help you get past the fear of that black ball.
