What kind of ferrule material is used on Meucci shafts? Not the latest generation, just before that. I'm guessing it's pvc, or abs. Does anyone know?

Thanks,
Rodney

I want to say it was PVC, but the person that would know is Chris Hightower. He sells the same stuff for replacing them.

Meucci is very secretive about what plastics he uses. He has his own special plastics made to his specs. So no matter what family you put them in, (PVC ABS etc..) you probably won't be able to get the exact same material anywhere else. I have some of the older yellowish color Meucci ferrules left, but once they are gone they are gone.

Cheese, one third of a grade harder than Velveeta.

How else can you ever hope to get that incredible hit??

His new stuff is a very different plastic. I am not sure what family of plastics his new stuff would belong in. His older stuff had the yellowish tint to it and produced a ton of cue ball action. I feel his mistake was boring out the tenons to 3/8" and therefore the ferrules split. The ones I have still have the 1/4 tenon hole in them so they can be tapped and threaded on or you can cut the tenon smaller so it will be stronger. He has started solid capping his new ferrules so they are holding up better.

I've used some Of Chris's replacement ferrules in the past, and unless He's changed materials since then, I believe them to Be the same stuff that I use, so If It's that yellowish/tan looking color, then He should have You covered with what You need.

Like He mentioned the splitting is usually caused By the large tenon size, making the side walls of the ferrule thinner, therefore weaker and more prone to splitting. Over the long haul they can get even thinner. basically If You do not reduce the tenon size, then the same issue could arise even after replacement. Reducing the tenon size usually solves the problem, and I've yet to hear of any complaints of drastic changes in feel, something that would be a concern of mine, just about anytime I had to change a tenon diameter from original.
