Meucci M-9 "The Hook" Cue - $160 (in need of small repair)

I have a used Meucci M-9 "The Hook" Cue that is need of a small repair.

The ferule completely broke off of the shaft, and I was quoted by 1 cue maker (in St. Louis MO) that the repair would cost $40 (without the shaft getting any shorter after the repair is done).

The cue is straight (together, and apart), and the are so nick/dings in the butt (but not that bad).

The cue is easily worth $200 (in my opinion), so I am asking $160 for it, and I am firm on my asking price.

I also have a really nice Falcon cue (4 Points with Bone Ivory inlays) that I would like to sell for $175.

The Falcon cue retails for $780 (from what Falcon told me in an email), and it is in excellent condition.

A cue repair person should be able to drill and insert a dowel in the shaft and then install a ferrule and tip for the same qouted price than make it shorter. Good luck with the sale.

I would get the cue repaired, but I do not have the money right now, and there are no local cue repair people in my area (the closest is in St. Louis MO, 3 hours drive from my city). I would sell the cue on ebay, but I am tired of the really high ebay fees. Thank you.

Please don't take my post as the action I expected you to take. I've corrected my posting and was making an observation. If I bought this cue, I would send it to RAT Cues at Muellers for repair which is probably within the $40 cost for repair, since a 28" shaft is not within normal tolerances. BTW, welcome to AZbilliards and happy holidays!

If the shaft would need to get drilled to put a new ferule on, than it would be around an inch shorter (and this is not what I would want). I have been told that there is another way to do the repair, without the shaft getting any shorter. Thank you.

Your cue is somewhat collectible. If you simply get a new ferrule put on it I bet you will be much happier with how it plays. Cues used to be 57". I will often get a shaft made an inch shorter because I like how it feels.

I'd buy it because of the design but I am done' buying cues for a while. If it were mine I'd wait until I could afford to get it repaired.
 
If the shaft is 27 3/4" without the ferrule now,it can easily be made to 29" again by adding a tenon, and a 1 1/4" ferrule which is standard for Meucci.
 
Only one person to send this cue to for repair, Mike Erwin, simply the best Meucci repair person out there. As a previous foreman for Meucci for years, he knows these cues inside and out. No short cues and priced right. I've send him most everything. The cues he makes for sale are also stunning in looks and the Mike & Scott Erwin cues are mean hitters. Great men to boot !!!
 
Cool cue at a good price. The repair can be done by any competent repair man and does not need a Meucci "specialist" at all. Using your local repair guy will save you a bunch on shipping.



For anybody considering this cue I just wanted to add that I did purchase a cue from this seller and I am very happy. There were a couple of small glitches in the process and he handled everything beautifully. I got myself a vintage Viking cue probably 30-40 years old that I really dig.

If your'e a Meucci guy I think this price would be hard to beat.

Does anyone think that the wood in the shaft may be bad, because I do not understand how the ferrule could have broken off the shaft like that (but it happened before I owned the cue, and the previous owner did not tell me about the damage).

If someone hits the cue on the table with a snapping motion then the ferrule can break off like that. Or if someone replaced the original ferrule at some point it's not uncommon for the tenon to get improperly shaped so that it's weaker than it should be.

Fix it. This is actually a pretty nice cue for a Meucci. One of the more creative designs and those are inlays and not decals.

I doubt that there is anything wrong with the shaft wood. That is a pretty frequent type of cue damage, and it is an easy, relatively inexpensive repair. You will face the end of the shaft, drill a hole into the shaft for a new tenon, glue in a new tenon, tap the tenon, glue and screw the new ferrule on, add a tip and you are done. It won't affect the length or stability of the shaft at all, as long as there were no vertical cracks down the shaft as a result of the lick that broke the ferrule off.

Repair cue

I Live in Linton In and have cue repair Shop been doing :this for 30 plus yr,s . If Your shaft is not split on the end where the tennon brokeoff it can be an easy fix with no loss of length . I guess I did not go into detail as I should have. Obviously, the cue can be repaired, but, how much shorter is the shaft going to be?? If you send the cue to Mike Erwin, you can have an option of fixing this shaft and have a new shaft made with the correct Meucci taper of the period, and Mr. Erwin will have the correct collar on hand for a new cue in case you go with another added shaft. The cue is not an Originals (block letter), it is a regular "Meucci" cue. I know that the cue would be much more valuable if it were an Originals (block letter type). I am not sure of the exact mm, but I am guessing around 12.5mm. I do not have any kind of special tool to measure the mm of the shaft. Does anyone know what the blue book value of the cue is? Thank you everyone for your help, and interest in the cue.

Correctly repaired it wouldn't be any shorter at all. :)

I wouldn't worry about the Blue Book. This cue is worth what you are asking.

Everybody seems to be advising how to repair this cue. Why not buy it and get it fixed? It's not a complicated repair, we have heard that already from the repair men themselves, so it's not just my opinion.

No disrespect for Mr Erwin, but I don't think it needs his expertise. Ryan of Rat cues also has the Meucci stamps and collars IIRC, and no disrespect to him either but it does not need his expertise. The local repair man should be able to set this cue right very quickly and cheaply, and that would save substantial shipping charges for such a repair.

How about somebody buys it? :thumbup:

I would still like to sell the cue, if anyone is interested. I would keep it and get it repaired, but I really need the money. Thank you.

It's the cursive logo. If it were the block letter I think it would have already been gone.

I am wavering as it is, this particular one has always appealed to me.
