Mezz shafts ferrule questions?

I just noticed that my ferrule on my Mezz shaft WD700 has a crack in it.

I'm awaiting to hear back from Mezz to see if they can warranty it. But if they don't..

Has anyone ever done work on a Mezz WD700 before? What kind of ferrule is it? Capped/Uncapped?

the ferrule is what they call an X ferrule, some kind of nylon fiber from what i understand. the ferrule is definitely capped, and i believe threaded. i've worked on a Mezz deep impact shaft and it had a 3/8 threaded tenon (can't remember what thread). the cap was thinner than usual, about 1/8" thick. I believe the WD700 uses the same design. I know in Japan they sell replacement Mezz ferrules for the WD700. I'm sure a cuemaker could machine one, but getting the same material would be the problem if you want the same hit and using a different ferrule material might affect the deflection performance too

Thanks McChen...that's a lot of helpful information. Not many people i know have ever worked on a Mezz ferrule before.:)

I'm guessing cause they never needed to.
