Any opinions on Micarta Ferrules? I have never tired one. I am interested in opinions from anyone who has had previous experience.

you can't get 'em anymore because they were made of asbestos,,,,though a few cuemakers probably still have some. but don't hold your breath. the "micarta" they sell today has no asbestos, so it doesn't have the same hit. they just took the name.

the hit was hard, but not crisp like ivory. nor light like aegis. it was dense and compacted, so it just felt REALLY hard. i mean,,,,if you can imagine asbestos or a telephone book, then compact it till it's SUPER hard,,,,,micarta is what you'd expect.

i would ask any cuemaker who's been around since the 80's or earlier.

Where did you read that? I don't think there was any asbestos in Micarta.

Micarta from Atlas is a paper based product that is probably not suitable as a ferrule material. I don't think it is strong enough. It does not glue very well either. They do not offer it in a thick enough sheet any more.

I think that Linen Based Melamine is the best ferrule material on the market today. It looks great, hits great, glues to wood and leather very well and stays clean better than any other material except Ivory.
