For those who watched the match last night, don't you agree Morro chunked enough racks to give Mika the win? Mika made some errors too, but Paez looked like a beat man after blowing a rack at 9-9. Maybe Mika's 6 pack iced him ( By the way, Mika needs to post in the "5 or more racks" thread). :D The BCN coverage was good. I just wish they'd show all the matches whether there's commentary or not.

morro

Well, maybe we watched a different match but I would say that they both dogged they're brains out in about the last 5 games. the match could have defintely gone either way...

I agree with ill_bust_you, it was not the best of matches. Plenty of positional errors by Mika toward the end of that match, and lots of dogged balls. Also, I know Mika went on a little streak there of consecutive wins, but I don't think he had 5 B&R's in a row. He definitely still belongs in the "5 racks" thread, just not for this particular match.

I noticed that the table definitely was more accepting than the tables I've played on - the balls are still sliding on the cloth, primarily due to lack of use and the heat from the TV lights. While it's still a tough table, balls which would jaw on the outer tables were dropping on the TV table. I'm sure that will end as the tournament continues and the cloth becomes worn, ensuring tough conditions for the world's greatest players in the latter stages.

The way I saw it Paez was up 4-1 and didn't make a ball on the break. Mika ran out that rack and then broke and ran 5 racks to make it 7-4. Can't wait to watch Vickery today at 3. "You got lucky, you lucky prick".

I agree DJB. The TV table is the most forgiving Diamond that I have seen (or played on). There were a number of shots that I think shouldn't have fell.

But boy is that table sharp! Cocobolo all the way - what a beaut!

I played my first match on table 14, and warmed up on a few others, and you could not hit the OB with any speed, unintentionally hit the side rail, and then expect to pocket the ball. Of course, this is the same experience I had with my Diamond Pro, so that was expected. Given my own personal experience with the Diamond Pro, and my practice and match play experience at this year's Open, it was a bit of a surprise to see some of the balls drop last night on table 8 (TV table) like it was a big pocket GCIV. I'm sure it will tighten up as it gets more play throughout the week.

I don't know, man. Where I come from, "choking the chicken" is something entirely different from dogging it on the pool table. :D

I had the exact same thought... and I guess the topic wasn't about wee hours of US Open, nah. So far I've tried to get rid of a bad habit of choking (the chicken), I like to rub my rhubarb instead. And with rhubarb, I mean a pool cue... of course.

I'm glad Mika beat Morro, but wasn't too happy to hear that the match got sloppy in the end. It's not a good sign for the following matches. Well, maybe it makes Mika even more concentrated later on. I hope Mika stays away from the choking thingy, with or without the chicken.
