they are.
they're also still trying to hit it as soft as they can and still make a legal break within the rules. the commentators mentioned that the players said the soft break was working despite the rules. clearly it's not.

I'm not watching the PPV but if that is what they are doing...trying to get away with a "medium soft" break then they deserve to get the foul.
The soft break would be like changing football rules so that gaining ANY yardage on 3 consecutive plays would be a first down...and it would ruin football just as surely as the soft break would ruin pro billiards...what is left of it anyway...in America.
I just watched the BCA semi between SVB and Mike Davis...the SEMI-FINAL in a MAJOR event and there were empty seats all over the place!
And that was with EIGHT THOUSAND ACTIVE POOL COMPETITORS withing 100 years of the event!!!
So, if the most active and most competitive pool players in America don't care to watch the pros, why would anyone wonder why the TV ratings are so low?
But still, many of us (but not me) complain about the TWO most exciting aspects of watching pool (in the eyes of the masses) the jump shot and the hard break!!
