Somebody on the chat said Shaw was referring to Shane at a previous event (Derby City Classic?) where Shane was rack-rigging.

Alex and Jeremy were comprehensive and thorough in their replies, but of course, they have commentary experience and know how to speak publicly on a big stage.

My favorite player's comments were Billy Thorpe. He was a pleasant to listen to, combative in a fun way, and was perfect in his replies.

I am still very impressed at how well these European players speak English, which is not their native language. I could barely hear an accent from Fedor, Josh, or Klenti.

At the next presser, the captains may think about prepping the players on how to answer questions. Emily would ask a very good question, and some of the players had one-word answers. Then there was a pregnant pause. I kind of felt sorry for Emily because she was trying her best to keep the colloquy upbeat and moving along with good info.

Oh well. Today's the day. Let's get ready to rumble! I'm hoping Chris has a good showing. Klenti has never been a frontrunner in this venue, but he does have experience in it. Time will tell.

I thought the press conference was terrible. The questions had no depth, the analysis was cliched, and few said much of any consequence.

The match must be decided on the field of battle, and tomorrow the players can let their cues do the talking.

Matchroom does well in organizing pool tournaments, has the best TV broadcasts and overall might be the best cuesports promoter.

But I hate this staged drama stuff and pointless face offs.

Well said. To take it a step further, why not just furnish the players with the questions that will be asked in advance? It's easy enough to arrange.
Guess we all recognize that Matchroom's biggest income comes from boxing, but going to the boxing formula for pre-match hype just didn't work here for Matchroom. That said, Matchroom is god's gift to pool. The fact that they've managed to make this event happen at all is testament to their enduring excellence as pool's top event producer.

Like you, I'm very curious to see how Chris Robinson does. He's a fine young man and solid player, but will the moment be too big or will he find his comfort zone? Wish him well, but one's first Mosconi can be a little intimidating. As some on the forum have previously suggested, though, the lack of fans may actually help him to keep his focus.

I have always have a distaste for the decorum of the USA team with the exception of SVB who is a class act from what I see. The USA team seem more selfish and more of individuals than a team.

Regardless what you think about masks but look how the Euro's have their mask on and everyone from the USA doesn't. I mean you are in another country and that should mean more caution.

And wtf are they wearing? Decidedly UNprofessional.

Shaw has always had this hot and cold attitude towards Shane. When he was a younger player he said he wanted to be like Shane with the break and how he plays. Now it feels as he thinks they are on even footing because of how he his playing, don't get me wrong Shaw is a great player but lets emotions get the best of him. Shane is a machine id say 98% of the time that 2% though shows one in awhile.

And the derby city thing a couple years ago you could see Shaw trying to do the exact same thing Shane just figured out the speed first its what put Shaw down in the first few games. Then it was a sharking attempt after Shaw pushed the rack Shane re racked broke from center ran out and Shaw gave him the match after that you could honestly see Shanes wtf look when Shaw stormed off.

Chopping the rail is uglier, and more dangerous. The players collude so the player getting better odds wins while covering bets on the rail through middle men. This sort of rigging happens, can get you hurt, even dead.

Then you can Chop up your own backer by laying down then splitting money with the winner. Another very dangerous activity!

When doing any kind of chopping except chopping the purse, I think it is garbage. I also think two big of a chop of the purse so there is no incentive to win is garbage.

Shane has a good reputation as far as I know. When it comes to chopping, I think the most he is likely to have done is adjust payouts a little. There are usually comparatively small savers in the big all or none matches and events or that is my understanding. No problem with that.

For many years Shane was one of the few players that made no deals and no savers. I don't know if that's changed or not. Most of the top players will make savers. Saving a thousand or 10% is common by the time players reach the semifinals of a major event. Although when it was American or European players against the Chinese or Filipinos there was less of this or none at all.

Almost everyone takes "random" to mean anyway they want them, not random. Of course the average pro should be able to toss the balls in a rack pretty much exactly like they want them. Impossible to prove something isn't a random rack so I favor only having a couple legal patterns.

coming to think of it, niels does this by the book. collects the balls randomly on the rail by the racking end and puts then in the template without looking. jeff de luna is also an "honest breaker" from what i've seen, relying on his monster break instead

The fact that so called professional sportsmen cannot dress themselves properly even to receive free money sums up the state of the game. The game needs a couple of good well presented ambassadors at the top to try to take it forward.
