I'm currently having a cue built an I've got all the details for it done but I have a certain material type for my butt cap and I can't seem to find the name or were to purchase this material. The material is white an almost translucent and can be found on all the older style custom cues an more specific ed prewitt cues. I've been rd by a few people the know of the material that its not good to work with an it cracks easily. If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it

You have described Delrin, except the rumor about it cracks easily. The stuff is bomb proof. It is difficult to glue, so Delrin butt caps are bolted on, usually.

The material fell out of favor with most cuemakers, but seems to be making a modest comeback. It will always be the correct material for that traditional Szamboti look.

Sounds like delrin but delrin doesn't crack. I've banged a lot of delrin on the floor and it don't crack:rolleyes:

Delrin is the brand name of the thermoplastic acetal. Other brand names include Celcon. There are others, but Delrin and Celcon are the two I've seen the most.

Great strides in the last 10 years have been made to figure out the better ways to bond acetal, especially with primers or two-part adhesives specifically targeted at acetal and plastics of the same family. Still, it's not great at bonding.

Curious why you'd be the one sourcing the material for a custom built cue?

Acetal comes in a quite a few formulations, you kinda need to have some understanding of it before I'd buy it to be used by someone else.
