Ode to WilleeCue!

Not so very long ago, I was fortunate enough to meet a nice fellow from Corpus Christi, Texas, via the Internet pool forums. Although I had never met him in person, I got to know a little bit about the man from his postings.

This kind man, knowing I was on a hunt for a good-hitting cue and hearing my plight, e-mailed me on the offs and asked if he could make a custom-made cue for Keith. Keith was so very grateful and talked with Willee several times on the phone, giving him his desired attributes for a cue stick.

Within several weeks, the FedEx man came to our front door delivering Willee's masterpiece, which was engraved on the bottom of the butt, "Custom Made for Keith McCready." It is absolutely beautiful!

As most seasoned players know, it takes a while to get used to a brand-new cue stick, and Keith kept using his Bobby Hunter cue until he could get some hours of practice in with his brand-new WilleeCue.

Recently, Keith decided to put the WilleeCue in action, and he absolutely loves the forward balance and "feels" of this cue, to include the stiff-hitting shaft.

This past weekend, Allen Hopkins asked Keith if he could check out the WilleeCue and played with it for a spell. Allen liked it so much that he has asked me to send him WilleeCue's info because he is definitely interested, stating the WileeCue has a good feel and hits great! Old-school players like Keith and Allen know what they want in a cue and recognize a well-made one. It's all in the "feel," as I am told.

I e-mailed Willee recently and found out he had heart surgery several months ago and is on the mend. He has taken a hiatus from posting on the pool-related forums, but I want to express my thanks to him publicly for his kind gift to Keith and wish him a speedy recovery!

Check out WilleeCue's website.

Hi, vapoolplayer! To date, it looks like we will be at Champions in Laurel for the season opener of the Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour.

It's a tough call, though, in my camp because the Joss Tour is having a $5,000-added event at Snooker's in Providence, Rhode Island, the very same weekend. This is the Ocean State Open, and many players come from far and near to compete in this tournament.

Hopefully, by the end of this month, Keith will have his WilleeCue on automatic pilot, as he likes to call it. We're going to Laurel tonight for the weekly tournament, and afterwards, we'll be heading up the road a stretch on Route 198 to hunt down that local young gun one-hole player. You may remember the kid. He's been quite popular as of late! ;)

is that the one keith and ryan went up to usa after :D and is his popularity because of the way he plays or his pockets??? ;)

i'm glad you mentioned the tourney in laurel, my schedule is free tomorrow, so i think i'll ride up there and play tonight. what was the entry again? like 25 or so?

You've got a good memory, vapoolplayer! ;) That's the kid. Two weeks ago, Ryan and Keith spotted him 11 to 7 playing captains one-pocket, and when it was all said and done at 4:00 a.m., they broke even! (LOL)

I think it's either 23 or 25, but at least we won't have to look down at the other end of the table and see a Mike Davis or a Ryan McCreesh this week! This is the same room where they will have the Planet Pool 9-Ball Tour season opener, too!

I really do like Snooker's in Providence, and each year, the Ocean State Open draws a good field of topnotch players. The staff is so very accommodating, and I can't say enough good things about Regina's homemade meatballs. :D

The final decision will be Keith's. I'll be happy to go to either one, and I sure do wish they weren't occurring on the same weekend! :(

I hope you come to Providence, It would be great if Keith could win. This is a banner event which means there is a lot of pride at steak also.

JAM,

Thanks for posting the pic of Keith and the cue. I'm confident this thread won't take a turn for the worse like the one at RSB. That place has turned into a slime pit. There are still some good guys that post on RSB, but there also a lot of slime balls who troll around and cause trouble. Please keep posting here. I enjoy your insight and positive approach to the game we all love!

Hey Mike,

I knew if I waited long enough I could catch you at a tournament to wrap that cue up for me. I've been trying to find the time but the wife and kids always have other plans. Looking forward to seeing you down there.

I'm glad to see a small time (or should I say lesser known) cue maker get some recognition from some well noted pros like McCready and Hopkins.

I read some of the RSB stuff when Willee was being slagged by another cuemaker. I challenged them both to post there websites so we could look at their cues and Willee was the only one who had the jam to do so. The guy who was doing the slagging at RSB, didn't meet the challenge. When it comes to put up or shutup,Willee shows up. Good for Willee, RJ

Willee certainly lit up that group for a while, it got real crazy. Thanks JAM for posting the original ode, I've been wondering what Willee was up to. I recall he was going north for work or something ... now I'm hoping he has a speedy and full recovery. We'll see more posting out of him yet, and I'd even bet on that !

Sorry Sir:
There is no room at the Inn. The lady of the house is not comfortable around people she is not familiar with.

That's a nice event, $5,000 added to boot! I believe Mika Immonen won last year. They have banners hanging from the rafters in the ceiling with the winners of previous Ocean Open tourneys, if I'm remembering correctly. It usually gets a full field of top players. How 'bout that Mike Zuglan?! He's sure on a sweet roll. :D

The flier for the 16th Annual Ocean State Championship (combined with the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour) states that the host hotel is the Holiday Inn (401) 831-3900. It says it has a $69 rate in effect if you mention "Snookers Tournament."

Past Champions of the Ocean State Championship:

2004 Mika Immonen
2003 Francisco Bustamante
2002 Mike Zuglan
2001 Mike Zuglan
2000 Mika Immonen
1999 Jim Rempe
1998 Mika Immonen
1997 Mike Zuglan
1996 Tony Robles
1995 George Sansouci
1994 George Sansouci
1993 Tony Robles
1992 Mike Zuglan
1991 Mike Zuglan

That does kind of have a nice look to it and would fit right nice next to the list of the other players: 2005 Keith McCready :D :D :D

Same here. I'll be coming down on Sunday with my buddy Matt.

Mike, let me know if you will be attending. If not, maybe I can drop it by your shop on the way down.

Thanks,
Koop
