Player evaluation starting at 10 a.m.

Saw a flyer today for a tourney. Tried to link a pic, but I’m too simple to size things small enough to meet the criteria.

“Ratings based upon known ability and previous performance.” Had a little picture of a raffle ticket that said, “lower your rank lottery sold.” I get the known ability thing, but the lotto thing had me scratching’ my head; maybe like a chip tourney, but you could play a ticket before the match?

Bolded in the middle, “player evaluations starting at 10 a.m.,” is what got me though. One guy has to stand over the shoulder of every player who is new and run them through their paces?!? Like a redneck umpire, how does that work? “Welp, he can follow out three rails with inside, but he can’t draw back a diamond and he dang sure can’t double the rail.”

I dunno, my anniversary is Sunday, so I don’t want to bother the guy with questions when there is 0 chance I would play, but this seems pert near foolish.

The lottery thing is you buy a ticket, if your ticket is drawn, you bought yourself down 1 playing level.
So if you were a 4 playing every race to 4 against your opponent, then you are now a 3 playing every race.
It adds a lot of money to the pot, but I'm against it.

Enter, the cashing couch.
“Time for the evaluations. These shots should be simple enough to get the shape of things to come.”

“Not one of those guys missed a single one of those shots by less than a diamond. I guess we’ll have to give our regulars some lower their level tickets, so their cheeks don’t chafe.”

before fargorate if you played in a hcp event, and were new in town, how was hcp established? i was evaluated in a similar way ~20 years ago.

so evaluation probably makes sense in some old fashioned way, but the lottery ticket where you win unfair advantage sounds perfectly idiotic

straight ins, straight backs, crosses, plants, cannons, backcuts, hard line drills (no optional position) perpendicular cue ball - short and long, zig zags skinny and wide, 2,3, and 4 or more rail cue ball. Should be less than a hundred shots quick and dirty, target percentage to pass.

100 shots quick? I don't shoot 100 shots in a day, ha ha.

Hear hear! Set up 20 different shots 5 times each; heck even 3 times. If I try to stay focused and not cheat myself it’ll be the better part of an hour. Let’s do that a dozen and a half times real quick.

Speaking of self abuse, The Shaolin Way. It's a marvel how she sticks these things. She doesn't mention actual returns or recovery window - quest to be best - nobody's quite sure...

Ohhh, I'd love that place!!
I'm blind, was a 3 in some league and can't run 3 in a row.
" Here, lookee see my open bridge??"
"Can I play, sir??"
" I'll only be here for the day." 🤣🤣

Well, there goes that idea.😂

Evaluation Process Suggestion: Match up two unevaluated players and have them play a short race (to 2 or3). Watch them play. Winner gets 2 entries into the lottery to encourage them to play at something like their true speed. Or match an unevaluated player with a known player using the same race and prize criteria. Just a thought.

That would just take all the fun out of it.😂👍🏻

evaluations i've been to were more like play a couple shots before the TD, then a practice rack or two against the TD. never heard of or seen more than two evaluations per tournament. usually the players has competed before somewhere so there is data.

In my opinion, it isn't fair to the regulars to do anything except start unknown players at the highest level, after they play you might even lower them 1 level at a time , but not go from a 10 to a 4 on 1 or 2 weeks showing. If they are legit , they will not have a problem with it . If they aren't they won't come back. They are just there to steal money.
