Players who have all of their expenses (flight and hotel to all tournaments) paid for

I am very curious how many players out there (and their names) get all of their expenses paid for (to go to all of the biggest tournaments in the world)?

For example, I assume that John Morra gets all of his expenses paid for by his Canadian sponsor, and he has been able to go to all of the biggest tournaments around the world for years (without having to worry about the money it costs for flight, hotel, and other expenses).

It is sad, because it seems that the US is in last place when it comes to sponsors that pay for players to travel around the world, and play in all of the biggest yearly events, but I do not know, and that is why I am asking you guys.

How many American (US) players are there that get all of their expenses paid for, to go to all of the big international events?

I can only think of Shane Van Boening.

Skyler Woodward is now sponsored by Meucci, and I see that he is playing really strong on the big tables now, so does this mean that Meucci might be paying his way to any of the international events in the near future?

Also curious who you wish would get sponsored (by someone with deep pockets, or some billiard company that could afford it) to play in all of the biggest tournaments around the world?

Thanks for any and all replies about this.

What about Lombardo?
Lombardo got into last 32 of W9B when nobody gave him a chance. And he is ubiquitous at overseas majors in past years
I doubt he is getting sponsored - most likely own money
And many of the Pinoys, Taiwanese , ex - World Champs like Yukio, Chao are not likely to get sponsored to recent W9B qualifiers .
:)

Any country with a federation and olympic committee : Holland, Austria, China, Taiwan. They may not have the unlimited budget to go anywhere they want though, but a good chunk of money from the federation for sure.

Morra, Klatt, and Ducharme won their trips by placing first or second in the Canadian
championships.

Yukio is sponsored or at least he was. Prior to winning the wpa, I heard he was getting travel expenses paid plus a small stipend. I imagine it must have gotten better since then.

I get all my expenses paid to TAP Nationals in November.

If you want to watch the show, I'll be playing on November 6th in Nashville Tenn.

Here's my response to the above...

That's a loaded question, justin.
I don't think it's an all-or-nothing recompense for our players or any other player for that matter.

My impression is SVB pays for some aspects of his trips.
With the annual monies he makes, his account just keeps getting bigger. He doesn't always need a backer in tow.

As for Lumbardo, I have a feeling that his egg nest is coming from someone personally.
A lover? A rich "friend." I could be wrong. This is not a bad thing. In fact, that happens more than we think.
How the hell else, can someone afford to travel and play pool when no major sponsors are obtained?

My point here is: we can't simply look at this from the perspective of sponsors footing the bill for everything.
Regardless, players have to figure out ways to pay their ways.

Perhaps the best way to obviate any financial struggles is to move to China and have quicker (and cheaper) access to some of the worlds best tournaments.
It will probably be like this for years to come.

Not sure on the answer to the question but I do like the topic. I'm a firm believer that we should focus or reducing or elimination player expenses, create some unity and structure, THEN worry about how much is added.

American Billiard Club would like to qualify 64 players for every US Open, Every Derby City and Every BCAPL Nationals where each player would receive $800 before they hit a ball and then get a free shot at winning more in multiple events while they're there.
2 New clubs starting up this week, Krome Billiards Little Rock Arkansas & Great Slates Cambridge MD :)

Having a full sponsor as a top tier U.S pro is a huge advantage over pros that don't. Just the mental part of knowing you can enter almost any tournament you choose, and do it a someone else's dime is big. Players that get staked for everything die broke. I always played on my own dime. If someone wanted to play for more than I'd feel comfortable with, I just said no. Johnnyt

There are sponsors and there are sponsors

While that is speculative, that is a "sponsor" also. Not a commercial/corporate sponsor but a social sponsor. Another possibility is he may be from rich family or is a rich dude who just loves playing pool

:D
