- I just received this cue and have no idea what it is.
- 6 point, 3 hi/3 low, no veneers. The points are almost perfectly even.
- Smooth Brown leather wrap with grooves at top and bottom
- The joint may be ivory or buckhorn, but I'm not completely sure with the aged finish that has yellowed.
- Buttcap and rings are a dark brownish/mahogany colored material, but does not look like the modern day phenolics.
- No weight bolt, bumper that was on the cue was a newer house cue bumper and is not the original bumper. Butt cap seems to have been modified where the bumper would have been and the end could have been plugged to provide wood to screw a house cue bumper in to.
- Age unknown, history unknown
- Cue is straight
- Brass 3/8x10 pin, 58", 15.57oz, 12.3mm tip

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

possibly an early DPK???.......with a Gina wrap done at a later date???......just a guess.....

Definitely wouldn't mind that at all. I don't have much info on DPK cues, but I think the pin is wrong for him....weren't his cues all 3/8x11?

could have been a prototype???....the chances i'm wrong could be pretty good but who knows for sure......not me just throwin' somethin' out there....

Early Kers cues were 3/8-11

It resembles a ugly stick though. I dare say the h word Harvey? I have seen a Martin with a joint like this. At least Cowboy attributed it to Harvey.
Nick :)

It popped into my mind that it could be one of his, but I just haven't seen any of his cues that aren't really all birdseye, so I kind of dismissed it. Although, he did use some brown and black fiber rings similar to what are in this cue. Do you have pictures of the cue you have seen with a similar joint?

Any other ideas?

i dont have a clue, not a clue. I have seen alot of wood over the years and have zero idea, the wrap kinda loks like a Gina(thats obvious) but I have seen alot of Ernies earliy work and this isnt anyhting like that.

the only thing I do know is I LOVE IT!!!! on the square, old school hardcore players cues are great!!!

Yep, I definitely agree, it's a great old school players cue for sure. It really has a nice hit and plays great!

The first thought I had when I saw it was a Harvey Martin re-wrapped by Gina. I can't be 100% positive, but I'd be pretty close to betting on it. Have you sent pics to Ernie? He may not remember the cue, but it's worth a shot.

Jim

Thanks Jim. I will send some pictures to Ernie to see if he knows anything. I think it is Martin-esque, but have never seen any of his cues with points and obviously the wrap is a little uncharacteristic of his cues also. We'll see what Ernie says!

The rings on the leather aren't the same as the rings that ernies wraps have

the butt and pin are wrong for dpk, or any of the "descendents" from that tree

Those are all things I have thought about too. What about a Martin cue? Does anything about this cue stick out as one of his in your opinion Marcus?

nope, i didn't even mention that one because it would have to be the rarest martin cue ever. (tmk he didn't build points)

i'm gonna say that it was bult out west, by someone that admired kers, and martin. But that's about all i'm willing to speculate.

Thanks Marcus. All of these points are definitely valid, however, none of this is a surprise to me. I hope I can find out who might have built it though.
