I'm looking for nice poolhalls right off of 95. I have to be in NJ tuesday and wednesday of next week and want to find a nice place to stop in one night and bang a few around but want to be close to 95 and in a decent neighborhood or area.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Well lets see... 95 is pretty long, so if you can narrow down a 75 mile stretch, I think I can help you.

JV (-- hope its not exit 95... :D

That may help wouldn't it. I can stay anywhere from New Brunswick to Trenton. I just want to find a place that is nice and has good equipment.

Thanks

In east brunswick just off of route 18 and only about 10 minutes away from the turnpike is Elite billiards. New Brunswick on route 1 just about where route 1 meets 287 is Sharkey B's. I hope this helps.

Elite Billiards in Milltown looks like a good choice.

I just happened to have been in NJ this past week and had a chance to poke my head into Elite. It has three 3C tables (1 heated) and two rows of GCs. The tables looked to be in good condition, but were very closely spaced together, end to end. The night I looked in, there were a couple guys on the 3C tables and that was it. Frankly, it did not strike me as a player's room, but I could be wrong about that.

Now I also got a chance to spend some time at Comet Billiards, about 40 minutes from Elite, and IMO, you should do everything you can to visit this pool room. It is big (20 GCs and a no-kidding snooker table); the tables are in immaculate condition; the Centennials washed after every use; and the owner, Bill Haley, as well as the regulars, are quite amiable and will make you feel right at home. There's also a remarkable collection of billiard memorabilia decorating all the walls.

I would kill to have a pool room like this in St. Louis :-)

Lou,
I wish you would have shot me an e-mail, I would have met you there. Comet is the class of class for rooms in NJ. It's everything Lou says. I also think Elite is your best bet in that area. Lou you weren't far from Crown where I play and one hole is preferred.

Thanks for the info guys. I think Comet is to far north for me so I think Elite is the place for me if I can stop.

Thanks again

What town will you be staying in? There is a nicer room about 10 minutes in either direction of both Elite rooms called Q Zone Billiards. A little smaller but all brand new tables.
Are you looking for cheap sets? If so, Elite is not the place. If you want some more info let me know.

Comet is a really beautiful place. Bill takes great care of it. They have several pro tournments every year, Joss Northeas tour, Blaze, Predator will there this year, and a great straight pool tournament. This past year Thorsten Hohman ran 150 and out and later that night 153 and out. Nice place to play and nice place to watch. The name of the place comes from the fact that the owner's name is Bill Haley as in Bill Haley and the Comets a music group from years ago.

If you are more southerly - just north of the Trenton Area is Q-Bridge Billiards. No more than 2 miles off Route I-295 (bear with me). I-95 north becomes I-295 South (confused yet) at Route 1, which is Exit 67. Q-bridge is at Exit 65 Sloan Rd. If you are on I-95N coming from PA the exits start at 1 just across the PA/NJ line. Exit 67 is really only about 8 miles into NJ (67 is the last exit on I-295). So if you are coming from PA get off at 65 and go under Sloan road and use that ramp. Go to the second light (first one is at an Uno's Chicago Grill) and make a left on Quakerbridge Rd. They are in a small strip shopping center on your right just off the corner you just turned (gas station on the corner - entrance to Q-Bridge immediately after the gas station property).

A couple Gold Crowns and a bunch of Gandy Big G's, all immaculately kept and recently recovered (cheap balls though). Nice room and you can get action if that's your thing.

Lou, what were you doing in NJ??? You should have let me know. Ditto on all the comments about Comet.

Adios,

Yeah, Joe, I shoulda posted something here about my trip, but wasn't really too sure how much time I'd have to play. And even the time I did have to play was only during the day. I would have liked to check out your home track and played some 1pocket -- maybe next trip.

P. Bob, I forgot youze was out there (they really all do talk like Joe Pesci out there :-)!! Next time -- if you'll lend me that John Parris -- maybe we can play some snooker at Comet.

NJ pool rooms

Tony Catucci's place, called "The Ballroom" in Toms River. Nice place.

I think Allen's poolroom is in Absecom, near Atlantic City?

If I remember right, didn't Allen Hokins have his own pool room in NJ? Does anyone know if he still has it?
I have seen him shooting at Sandcastle Billiards (formerly Sharkey Bs)
I try to go once a week on Mondays and have seen him there 3 or 4 times

Not that I'd be much competition for you, but bring it on - I have two Parris' that you're welcome to try, just let me know next time.
