I know most cues are close to 58 inches. That being said what is your preferred length cue.

I have long arms and prefer 60in or 61in. My hand is off the wrap and almost on the bumper on a 58in cue. It's interesting how pool form has evolved over the years. The 57 and 58 inch cues were designed for the player to have his or her hand in the middle of the wrap, or even near the A-joint, to be close to the balance point.

Im actually having a 54" custom cue made right now, with a 4" butt extension to enable full size. I want to try a shorter cue. At 54", my grip would be right near the end of the cue. Allison fisher made the change and loves it. Pat fleming also swears by a 54". I will have the option to do either length. It will also be nice to be able to remove the 4" extension for when i get "walled" at certain bars during league, where often a mere 3-4 inches obstructs your cue.

I prefer a 29" butt and a 30" shaft. I like the balance that way, a little more forward. I’m 5’11”

Golf clubs are sized to the player, no reason that pool cues shouldnt be also.

Everyone thinks player height when they discuss pool cue length. Generally, we’re talking 58”-60” long.
There’s also joint inserts & butt extenders. When I think player height, based on my experience, I think
player’s stance & distance from the table. At some point, a longer cue just becomes almost a necessity.

The one thing I never hear brought up is the player’s arm sleeve length. You do not have to be 6’3” to
have long arms. Everyone’s anatomy is different. Wearing the right size clothes makes sense, right? Well,
playing with a cue that fits your shooting stance & pool stroke also makes sense. Play with what works best.

agree/I've brought it up a few times/have advocated/do advocate that there is a unique cue for us all
I'm short, have proportionately-long (short) arms- I don't mess with much of the butt length/weight
as a result, I've been experimenting with shorter cues, etc. and like the direction I'm heading in
in fact, a cuemaker is currently cutting down a (cheap) 58" cue I have to 54"..I'm excited to try it
I'm happy playing with anything, but as you mention, we are all different- why not cater to ourselves?

if you play on 9ft's with that short cue you better be good with the crutch. or play perfect position. ;)

So Having a cue that exactly fits my max stroke, but no more works for me.

A cue should be fitted to each individual player.

My opinion

just seen this post..I'm right there with you. looking forward to trying 54" hopefully next week
knew about pat, but didn't know the dutchess was using a shortie? pretty cool
if I like the shape, I plan on also commissioning a custom, with an extension, as you mentioned
after you get yours and get a chance to bang around, let us know how you like it!
