Around what year and why did World Championships start being played outside of American soil? When the World Championships were being played on American soil who sanctioned the events? I heard from an old school guy at the pool hall that back then anybody could start a big tournament and call it World Championship and thus you had several people claiming to be a World Champion in the same discipline in the same year.
