Again we ended up with only five players due to scheduling conflicts with a couple large pool tournaments in the area. Everyone had a good time. The format of 12 points or 25 innings kept the pace reasonable and seems to work very well. We had only one overtime game. The results are as follows:
-
-----------------------------Grand Avg. ---Best Game
1st - Rich Kuchma of Omaha-----.32------------.48
2nd - Doug Taber of Wakefield---.35------------.44
3rd - Jamie Sibley of Lincoln-----.31------------.32
4th - Steve Nelson of Lincoln----.36------------.75
5th - Charlie Flohrs of Seward---.15------------.25

Nice job Jamie!

I'm trying, with the help of the room owner, to organize a small tourney similar to what you are doing. I would like to try and limit the length of time of each game to less than one hour, with scheduled start times at 1 hour and 15 minutes intervals.

I took a look at all of your videos (sorry I don't have time to watch them all in their entirety), mainly I was looking for the length of time for each match. It seems that most games took about 30 minutes with a couple lasting almost 40 minutes. Using this info I think I'll be safe to have 15 point games or 30 innings.

I'm curious how many of the games ended at 12 points vs reaching the limit of 25 innings, if you have and will share that info it would be appreciated.

I noticed in this video http://www.viddler.com/explore/tiger37373/videos/7/ at about the 2 minute mark the player shots white off the yellow, white travels 3 rails and in the mean time yellow contacts the red before the white arrives to score the point on the red. However it was not counted as a point. Are you playing some sort of no slop rule or did the players just not realize it had made the point?

Thanks for what you are doing and hopefully it will bring new players into the game.

Steve

Steve,
Thanks! Most of the games don't make it to 12 points first. The majority of the time the innings run out. The innings are what really limits the time. The only game this time that lasted longer than 30 minutes was an overtime game, where the players were tied at the end of 25 innings. We always allow the players the finish thier innings. Even in sudden death ot, you get to play your inning. For example, player #1 has 8 points, at the end of his 25th inning and player #2 has 6 points coming to play his 25th inning. Player #2 makes 2 additional points during his 25th inning. Then the game goes into ot, and the 2nd player always a chance to defend during his inning. Hope that makes sense. With 5 players it takes about 5.5 hours to finish the tournament. If i ended up with like 10 players we would adjust the format to say... 10 points and 20 innings or something like that, in order to reduce the time. I only have the one table to work with so time is a big factor. So far, everyone really likes the format. It keeps people interested in watching the games, too.

Good eye on the video watching, I guess no one noticed that the shot was good. We do play the standard international rules. Players referree their own games and one of the spectating players keeps score.

I appreciate the support. Although I lost a couple of previous players to a pool tournament this weekend, we ended up getting three new players to the tournament. So hopefully by winter, we'll have a decent draw of players. Best of luck with your tournament, and if I can lend any further assistance please let me know.

Best of luck!
