i just bought a used GC3. It's going to get put together this weekend & today when i went to pick up the featherstrips, the guy there didn't know what size i needed for a gold crown (i don't either, i've got a good friend that's really good at set up)

My question is, what size featherstrip do i need, and, will the rubber featherstrips work for a gold crown?

Feather-strips come in more or less a one size fits all. 5/16" square by about 48" long. The trick to using wooden feather-strips is having a block hand plane to shape them to size so they'll fit snugly. Rubber feather-strips over time push into the feather-strip dado and sink the cloth below the surface of the rail and start looking like shit, besides the fact that they won't hold the cloth in the dado as tight as wooden feather-strips will.

I agree. we have the rubber, plastic strips on our K-Steels and they are starting to slip and not hold the clothe very well. Should I switch to wood? even though these came with the table? Thanks

You should ask?...LOL

Wood featherstrips are best. The ones we carry are 1/4 X 5/16 which generally save trimming time. Plastic featherstrips are the worst. Too smooth to hold well and a pain to trim. Rubber featherstrips that have 2 ribbed sides work well but we haven't seen those since we sold Kasson tables.

The world is flat!!

Just my opinion.... but I prefer the "gray" solid rubber feather strips. I have been using them for several years on many types of tables and have had zero problems. I keep several sets of wood around in case I run into a purest who demands it.

Just in case you'r interested!
