Samsara Cues' Playability

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to get some people's opinion on the hit/playability of Samsara's cues. I did a search and most of the posts seem to have comments on their look but hardly any on how they play/hit. I play with one and would like to see how people think their hit compares to other custom cue maker's cues. Thanks in advance for your responses.

Samsaras generally play on the stiff side. They are very solid, and have a good hit and moderate feedback. I like Jim's progressive taper as a good all around shaft. Samsaras are usually considered to be functional pieces of art, or at least their high end cues are. They are very unique in design, and hold the highest tolerances of any cuemaker I know of. Doug has such an interesting method of inlaying and making "scale-like" patterns, that most people can't get past the looks of the cue to even play with it! If you need another opinion, get a hold of Scott Lee. He is a BCA instructor that plays with several of Samsara's cues.

The only one I ever hit a ball with seemed too stiff and just felt "clunky" to me. I like a stiff hitting cue too, but this one seemed too stiff. It could have just been that particular cue.

I owned a very attractive bacote Samsara years ago. It's hit was extremely hard for my taste - to the point where I disliked playing with it. I contacted Dave D., explained it to him and they rushed a new shaft to me at a well-discounted price. Sad to say that it didn't much help but I remain impressed with their great C.S. I hated to sell such a beaut. I would consider a different joint style from Samsara though. I think mine had a hard plastic (not phenolic) joint w/a 5/16" pin, med. tip.

when I was up in Minot ND in the pool room I was talking with a bunch of guys and when I told them I wanted to go to Rugby and check out samsara and possibly buy one of their cues, everyone I talked to told me that I should not waste my time and most of them described the hit as similar to a viking. and that they were over-priced I never hit with one but If they hit like a viking I dont want to.

I bought one about 2 years ago. I didn't like it very much. Kept it for a couple of months and resold.
Purdman
