Sharp dress at DCC

Hello all -

I will not try to sound like Joan Rivers at the red carpet but it was apparent there has been some coaching from some on dress.

I appresiated the dress of some at the DCC. Some of these guys and gals looked great.

It sure seems easy to understand why Gabe Owens, Corey Duall, Ralf Souque and others would get sponsership. They look professional, act professional and conduct themselves that make us all look good. I might add, Sara and Janette looked pretty sharp too.

I mean in the practice room, I really dont care as much. But damn, we can spend all time *****ing about the lack of sponsers and then look at the dirty t-shirts and backwards baseball hats.

It really isnt that tough is it?

Damn. Just my thoughts.

I've just been watching on BCN, but I was going to say I saw some oddball outfits. Efren in Hustlin wear? He looked baaad, but a little strange. And Chohan looked thuggish in his, er, oversized red Hustlin shirt in one-pocket.

Both guys wearing baggy jeans in the banks final? Guess it's a down-home game. Jason Miller was cool under pressure, but he'd look a little cooler if he didn't tuck in ...

I thought I read somewhere when signing up for the Derby that Jeans and T-shirts were a no no? WTF?

With the whole pool world watching, I would have went out of my way to at least look good while I was getting smoked!!

Right on, Ken! Most tournament players look as though they'd just taken a break from yard work........ I think collared shirts, decent slacks and clean shoes for the men are not too much to ask. You won't see beenies and T-shirts at the IPT.

tap tap tap They can save their 'normal' outfits for hustling, but in
tournament play with all the spectators and on the net or TV, they
need to look professional. What is recommended above is not asking
too much. Heck, some of the players wouldn't even be recognized
without their ballcaps on ... lol might get more action that way ...

The DCC is patterned after Johnston City.

The whole concept of the DCC was intended to re-enact the Johnston City Tournament. That is what Greg originally had in mind.
Although he has exceeded all expectations of size and players, I believe he still wants to keep the feel and flavor of - Come As You Are and Play & Gamble as you would when On The Road or playing in your local poolroom.

Some of the players were asked to wear shirts from different companies to promote their clothing line. Players I guess did this as a favor to friends. What you see now in the poker tournaments. Efren off course gets the most requests. As he kindly wore Freddy the Beards T shirts which says Bank on Brother on the front.
Im with OHB on this one though. The Derby is not the BCA or the UPA or the WPBA. It stands alone as the most popular event where no one is ranked or seeded or biased against. You get your entry fee and that is all that is required. It is the meat between the buns. Not the whip cream on it as the Fat Man used to say.

I think your right, lets look like trailer trash and not present pool in the best light possible.

But our sport has not evolved like we all want it to.
Now, with the IPT, setting new standards, there is a
chance for us to be more mainstream and raise the level
of Pool. I think other tours and tournaments should help
reflect a better image also, for the sports sake, and dressing
a little nicer is going to kill anyone. Khaki's, a nice polo, and
clean shoes is not asking too much. And the men should keep
their shirt tucked in. This is their job, when I got a job, I had
to conform to a dress code. I think the NBA just expressed an
opinion about dress codes if I am not mistaken.

Some bellies don't look that good with tucked in shirts. I like the come as you are feel to it, regardless how it looks. But it would be great if the players felt like showing up a little better when making it to the final 8.

Ken - I'll tell you what - You get good enough to play at the DCC (and get in the money), and we will wait to see you play in a tux - That will show all these poorly dressed pool players - that apparently you are willing to pay to see.

What about the qualifier?

It does not look like even the IPT is enforcing their dress code, or are they?
Are they wearing suits and ties for their matches? Thought that was the rule. They said Alex had just finished an ipt match then came to the arena. He didn't change clothes for the DCC did he?
If they are trying to clean up the image of pool I think for the T.V. taped table, where they are taping matches to sell, everyone should be dressed in nice clothes and not questionable attire with advertising or messages. Wearing a Hustlin shirt, imo, does nothing to help the image of pool.

The Derby Classic IMHO is for the players and the people who have a true love for the game. Its not for the sponsors or the commercial outlets. It is for the billiard artist and his admirers. Asking Efren, Jason Miller, Alex, or any other to live to a dress code is like asking Picasso or Van Gogh to paint in a coat and tie.
All other tourney's can do what they want but the Derby lives on the gamble and the match up and the once a year test in who is the best all around. After the Derby, as in Efren's case, there is no debate.

The DCC has a dresscode. From what I gathered it was basically be clean and presentable. Collered shirts were preferred. The thing is, unless someone complains, they're not gonna enforce it. Efren could show up in a bathing suit and flip-flops and I doubt that anything would be said.

I'm sorry.....but I just don't get the need for a dress code at DCC. It's a SHARKFEST......hell if some of the ladies showed in a skimpy bikini I think it should be alright (might even give em an edge). IT's "playtime for the SHARKS", not meant to be a representation of the sport as a whole. Goddamn TV. If they show it on TV every prude just has to weigh in on who wins best dressed. I think the sharks would tell ya "wedonneednostinkindresscode".

If it is not for the commercial outlets and the sponsors then you agree they should not be wearing what they are wearing for the tapings. You are contradicting yourself in your own opinion. And on that "other" tour they are going to have to play in a coat and tie. So K.T. asked and they will.

I know for a fact some are getting paid to wear them and or sponsored by them. I am not against wearing them but show a little class when being taped for dvd's to sell. And I know Mr. Sullivan works hard, I was there last year when he had a mild heart attack and had to be rushed to hospital. I appreciate all his efforts.

Well, I wasn't even there, but by your description, it sounds like Willie from Detroit, often seen with Brandon Ashcraft or Ronnie Wiseman when on the road.
