Congratulations to Shawn Putnam on his great showing and winning in Pittsburgh. Way to go. Does anybody that was there happen to know how the crowds were....................................mike

High-five to Shawn Putnam! Great win and couldn't happen to a better guy!

Shawn's got game, so we shouldn't be surprised in the least. Well played.

Congratulations, too, to Tony Robles, who came third.

Congratulations to Shawn. Based on the photos and some of the commentary, I would say the crowd of fans was nonexistent. Most of what I was a small group of retirees watching while the rest of the "Burgers" were working. Seems to me like a lousy time to schedule a tournament with most of the matches including the finals being played during the week. I don't see how the players were able to cover expenses with such little prize money. Oh well, what do I know!! ChuckR

I was at the tournament for weds and thurs. TOO EXPENSIVE! Hilton wanted $180+ 14% tax on rooms + 10 to 20 per day parking (I didnt play I sweated the matches) we had to travel around to find a cheaper hotel ($142 per night). Bad seating, no bleacher seating. You had to place in the top 3 in this tournament just to either break even or make money. The expeneses for this tournament it what kept the players and the sweaters away. I hope the Jim Dawson took note!

Tournament action was great and seen some great matches played. All the players conducted themselves like professionals.

Congradulations to Shawn Putnam for winning the tournament undefeated he played real solid. Now he can shake that Viking tour off his back and start winning bigger tournaments....

Ha! I want to know who put Shawn at 3 to 1 and Mike Davis at 5 to1. I picked Shawn on all the bets and made 100 v dollars. Not bad but I've gone on tilt twice :p

Congratulations to Shawn, a quick glance over the payouts and you see just how tough the field was that he went through to win.

I played in the event, shot terrible. The crowds were very small, not many more spectators than in most regional tournaments. The last couple of days were a little better with Putnam's fans coming in to show their support. I'm happy he won, he was overdue. Shawn is a nice guy and great player, hope 2005 will be a good year for him. This event is way to expensive for the amount of prize money to be won. They can't expect someone to put out 1000 - 1500, having to come in the top five to break even. The field was way too competitive for anyone to be able to count on making it to the last five, Archer didn't.

Congrats Puffy, uh I mean Shawn! It's about time! Good luck at the Viking Nationals. I'll be at regionals that weekend for APA. If you run into Jade, tell her to give me a call. Thanks.

I played in the tournament and was Shawn's first match of the tournament. He beat me 11-7. I am a rookie on the UPA Tour and this was only my second UPA tournament, the Tour Championship in L.A. in January being my first UPA tournament. First and foremost, I want to congratulate Shawn on his impressive play and well deserved victory. Second, I want to make note of what an excellent jumper he is. When it comes to playing pool, it takes a lot to impress me. Well, he impressed me with one particular shot that I can't get out of my mind. He made the 1 on the break but was hooked behind the 3 ball about half a diamond past the side pocket. The 2 was frozen to the opposite side rail about an inch past the first diamond from the side pocket. After looking at the table for a few seconds Shawn called a roll out and intentially put the cue ball just off the rail still hooked behind the 3. I had the option of shooting what I believed to be a difficult jump shot or pass the shot. I decided that with the 2 frozen to the rail, the cue could very easily hit the 2 and then bounce off the table, so I passed on the shot. Shawn grabbed his jump cue almost as though he knew I was going to pass the shot. He got up there jumped the 3, hit the 2 perfectly, banked it in, got shape on the 3 by going two rails and then proceded to run out. Again, congrats to Shawn. I look forward to doing to him what he did to all the other players in the tournament... GETTING REVENGE.

The first time I met Shawn was at the BCA Open in Vegas a couple years ago. My wife (at the time) had bought me a Bunjee Jumper and I wanted to ask John Collins to show me how to use the darned thing. It just so happened that he was talking with Shawn at the time John said he would be happy to show me, but that his friend might do a better job.

Shawn makes jumping a ball look effortless. I definitely think he is the top player with a jump cue out there. I still like Earl with a full cue, but Shawn can do some amazing things with a short cue.
