An unbelievable thing has happened in Cocoa Beach FL. Gary Patrick has opened a pool venue that I can only compare to the Hustlers Tournament in Johnson City from years ago. Reading about how the Jansco Brothers had setup the back garage with stadium type seating and tables in the pit is exactly how Gary has set this place up. There are approximately 75 comfortable movie theater style seats in 3 rows on either side of an OUTSTANDING 1945 10 foot Brunswick Centennial Table. There are 5 Cameras setup around the tables that catch all the action and are broadcasted on the internet real time. The matches are even commentated by our very own Hustlefinger. Concessions are sold at a reasonable price and people of all ages are welcome. He has knowledgeable volunteers do the refereeing (with white gloves and all.) Located on the beachside of A1A this two story brightly painted building is nothing like I have ever seen before.
The match that I watched this past Friday was a ring of fire game based on No Slop break, 10 ball, all ball fouls, scratches respotted and shot from the kitchen match. 15 chips were given to the players and the winner got to keep his chip while the losers had to turn theirs in. It ended up being a really close match with 3 of the players fighting for the final match.
I got to talk to Gary during the intermissions and asked what his plans were for the place. He said that not only was he going to do the ring of fire matches on Friday but he started a scotch double match on Saturdays. Later on there are plans to have straight pool and one pocket matches. A few pro's have shown an interest in playing some matches as well. (he mentioned names but I don't want to announce them till they are confirmed).
I cannot believe that something like this has opened so close to where I live and I have the opportunity to slip back in time to see some great matches in such an awesome venue in the spirit of Johnson City.
