Southwest and escrow advice

I've finally made a deal for someone's Southwest spot through here. My question is... What is the best way to go about it? I know Laurie Franklin won't deal with anyone other than the person that reserved the spot. I'm thinking about escrow service. Put enough in escrow to cover the cue, shipping, escrow fees, etc... Then once I get proof that the order has been placed for my specs, with deposit.... Release amount equilevent to deposit, then when I receive the cue, release the rest. Thoughts? Other suggestions? Escrow references, ideas?

Thank you

Unless the people at Southwest recognize you as the customer you'd be crazy to proceed.

I've been screwed over by family and best buddies. You think some stranger wouldn't get over on you?

Like another poster stated, if the man on the list falls dead you will be SOL.

Southwest

Not to me.

You could lose so many ways here....lost deposit, lost cue. Lost cue and money...Go buy a Lucasi and take the wife to Maui. Or buy a used SW.

I'm with 2strong... this sounds like a bad proposition. How are you going to get a Southwest with your specs if you can't deal directly with Laurie? You're counting on the spot holder to put your specs in, where to deliver, etc. and actually be around when it happens. Buy a used Scruggs, Tad merry widow, Tascarella, or SW... that's to your specs.

In every interaction in life someone risks getting screwed over.

A person has two options: Sit at home and be agoraphobic or believe that most of the interactions will be mutually beneficial.

I think a lot of what is missing in society is a little bit of trust. Trust is a gift that one can give a stranger. Most of the time the people I have trusted have lived up to my expectations.

It isn't like you haven't done your homework, he seems to have a decent reputation.

Good luck.

Hmmm... that's a difference. If you can get your specs applied to the order spot, that might be worth it. Two months away... not a bad wait.

Good luck, Captain!:)

If you want to accept risk then do so. If you want me to tell you it's all gonna work out, sorry I won't do that.

Use an escrow service to hold your money. Have him order it to your specs. When he receives it, he can ship it to the escrow agent. Give him a small profit for his troubles.

That's exactly what we're planning on doing.

The first thing I would do is make sure I got a spot for a South West and not a Southwest.

I'm completely ignorant on this whole thing, but very curious. So it's Southwest's policy for people to reserve spots in their backlog. Then if a spot-holder wants to wheel-and-deal it to another person, Southwest won't deal with the new person? And the Op wants to get his cue through the intermediary spot-holder?

I might be crazy, but is any vendor's cue worth the hassle this appears to be? Somebody help me understand the sense in all of this. Because on the surface, this appears to be a very bad idea.....like putting a sign up that says "burn me please".

2 months could turn into many more and another 6 to 12 months before the cue is done......good luck.

I will vouch for poolhalljunkie. He was over to my house a few years back and we played pool on my table for a few hours. He has some very nice cues in his case.
I'm sure he will relay your specs to SW just the way you want it.
I seriously doubt he would take off with your money.
I hope you enjoy your SW when it arrives.

I get that feeling as well from Zach. Thank you for your input.

Just got the notice and pricing form from Laurie today. They're ready to start on it. Once specs and deposit sent... 6-8 months.
