Stats for the IPT...Suggestions?

I'm going to record a few stats at the King of the Hill event this week, so thought I'd ask for some suggestions of which stats would be useful to collect.

These are stats I am going to collect:
Break percentage. ie. Record if a ball is legally potted off the break.
Break and Run percentage.
Run out percentage first shot after break.

I'll also try to get some photos of the pocket openings and close ups of the cloth.

Anything else you'd like to see?

I'll check back here before I leave.

I think most players would be interested in the run out percentage, after the break, and the first shot.. as well as consecutive racks run..

Myself, I would also like to know how many banks were involved in the run outs, gives me some idea on how the players are dealing with the cloth..

If you can get any pics of the pocket openings, see if you cant place a ball in the pocket and take a pic, that will give people some idea of how tight the pockets are...

just some suggestions I am interested in..

Hi Colin

Im going down to Orlando as a railbird and I'd love to keep some stats myself. I've been thinking about what to keep track of. I would really like to introduce myself when I get there as you seem to really know your stuff. I've been thinking about keeping tabs on how well the women play since it's been a big mystery how well they would generally match up against the men. As far as specific stats, I think I'm gonna try to keep tabs on percentage of 1st inning runouts. Have a safe trip and see ya in Florida.

I'd like to see the ones Colin mentioned above AND % win from break. In other words, what percentage of the games does the breaker win and the non-Breaker win.

Later,
Bob

Cheers guys,
Thanks for the tips!

To TX Poolnut or any other AZ'rs attending. Please come up and introduce yourselves sometime during the event :-)

You can recognize me from the pic below where Ralf is interviewing me;-) I'm the big guy in the suit.

Colin,

You are not going to have time to talk to anyone if you have to keep track of all those stats. Watching 15 matches at one time, seeing who wins from the break, and all that other stuff - it exhausts me just thinking about it. Remember, you also have to spend time in the IPT booth too.

haha, yes I'm sure some people are imagining me like an obsessive compulsive disorder nerd trying to record the action on 10 tables at a time...lol:eek: :p

I just intend to take a sample of 50 to 100 games over the week. Whatever games I'm watching.

Hopefully the IPT will have some lackeys (oops, I mean statisticians) there collecting some stats from each table.:D

btw: I will also be conducting a survey of all the pros on whether or not DM should be let back into AZ and what they would score Marissa out of 10:cool:

Oh, ok then. Snazzy suit too. Score Marissa out of 10 in what? Hotness, problems, what? And do all the pros know who DM and Marissa are?

There was a lot of hype about the pro rules of still having a open table no matter what ball was made on the break.

How about % of times the group was chosen that was not made on the break.

Times the 8 is made on the break.

Losing by making the 8 out of turn or fouling on the 8

Info re: IPT stats

Hey everyone,
Just to let you guys know IPT does show some stats on their
website, at least for the first event.
Go to: www.internationalpooltour.com & then click on "Rankings".
Info shown: Ranking, Player Name, Games Lost Index, Break & Runs & 8 on Break.

Please note there was no break & runs. (Sorry I mis-informed you guys with my statement, left side of this edit....I reviewed the stats prior their update....just viewed stats an saw they have been revised and now shows: MS had 7 B&R and 1 8oB.... LJJ had 2 B&R and 0 8oB).

Of course they will know all about DM and Marissa...AZ is the center of the universe:rolleyes: ;)

Must leave for the airport soon, so this is my last post for a while.

Look forward to meeting you Linda and other AZ'ers:D

Why dont you just confine yourself to what the unknown IPTers do? ie how many brk,nRuns, how mant games won etc.
That way you would have plenty of free time and you wouldnt even have to sharpen your pencil!
LOL

j/k guys:D :p ...........honest.........:)

Ditto. I've always heard through the rumor mill that when the pros play 8-ball the breaker loses more than wins. Not by much, but still loses more.

It's the same with nineball. It's only about a 42-43 % break and win ratio. A friend of mine did some stats. Chip Klein, he's probably a shortstop /semi pro. One of the people that could've made a real impact if there had been more money in pool and the dedication required could be justified. He was telling me how the break isn't really that big of a spot because of the stats he put together.

Cheers guys,
I'm here in Orland now....
I'll try to get some nice pics of the Ring Girls especially for Cornerman.

I see the rule is winner's option, so I'll take note of whether winners send their opponents in to break....interesting.

Colin <~~Out of the commo state and into the nanny state.

I find that hard to believe. Do you mean 42-43% break and run, or break and win? The break is HUGE, IMO. Peace, John.

Here's a stat I'd like to see:

"Colin Colenso, rouge player, smuggled in from China, wins the IPT event. He attributed his win to the knowledge and support of a radical, fringe website called AZBilliards. His comment after the win?: 'Back-handed english rules!' Film at 11."

Give 'em Hell, Colin...and have the most fun you've ever had playing good pool.

I don't think Colin's playing in this one. IIRC all the IPT members have to be present at the tournament, while only those invited are playing (~43 in total). I'm sure Trudeau will reimburse him for airfare from China with some pocket change (Benjamins no doubt).

Nice of him to volunteer himself as Stat Boy though. Don't forget to carry the 1, Colin! Oh, and it's "i before e except after c".

Jeff, as NaCl said, I won't get to play this week...but will enjoy watching, studying the matches.

As Ronnie O didn't come, us 150 - 43 wanabees had our chance...well kind of...to get into this event with a guaranteed 6,200 in prizemoney. Players names were drawn and had to make this shot to get in to the last 43:
START(%AN8E1%Pf8O4%WM4D3%XM9D6%YD1L7%ZL3C7%[P3Z7%\C1M6%]q4E0%^P8[2%eB4b2)END

The shot played pretty hard as the cushions were sliding a LOT with the new thick nap cloth. About 20 players tried and missed before some guy actually fluked it into the center pocket. Schwartz I think his name was.

I never got a shot...Bernie Friend got the 2nd shot but knocked the OB off the table somehow:eek: I think he was going for the 7 railer:cool:
