The audacity of someone trying to cash in on the Szamboti name by coming up with "Szamboti.com", and putting it for sale on Ebay is deplorable! As everyone in this forum is aware, this name is synonomous with some of the best billiard cues ever made. The reputation built by Gus,and continued by Barry, is one of dedication to the highest degree of quality and tradition.
These men never prostituted their name or craft for the "quick buck",nor should anyone else! I,for one, would not buy ANY article with the Szamboti name affixed to it,let alone rights to a site without it being Barry's property.
I know for a FACT that if anyone purchases any items related to this site,Barry will not do any work for that person PERIOD! Let us be honorable and not entertain the individual perpetrating this scheme for the proper, moral reasonongs we know are just, that the Szamboti name should remain pristine and never soiled by financial greed.

I think there are already precedents set for "cybersquatting" when the person holding the domain has no legitimate claim to the domain itself.

Hmmm... sounds like a good moneymaking idea to me...

I see your point, but nobody has to buy the web site. Barry can make up any other name he wants: "BSzamboti.com", "SzambotiRules.com" etc... This person is just trying to cash in on the name, but really, selling web site names has not worked well for about a decade now. You can make up any other name or even use a different suffix.. like .net.

Don't worry. I think Barry has the Szamboti reputation firmly in hand.

I couldn't agree more...
This domain name was most likely bought out of spite....
Good luck to the person who gets in the middle..
There has been no effort to purchase this site by any Szamboti member, nor
will there ever be...
The seller owns MANY other cuemakers names also.. Not just this one..
He is a member here on AZ..
The Szamboti family has never sold there name for profit.. So why should someone else??
Just my opinion..

I wouldn't pay anything close to what they are asking but I think if someone buys the site to display their Szamboti collection I wouldn't have a problem with that.

There are other sites that have information and display beautiful cues by the makers.

I think if someone bought the name and put up their collection for display and also offered information for people who are interested in these cues that would be a good thing and in no way would be detrimental to the Szamboti name.

I think it would be a great way to bring various collectors out of the woodwork to send in pictures of their cues also for display on the site.

I like Barry a lot and have talked to him on the phone quite a bit and I doubt he would have any problem with something like I mentioned.

Personally I don't think anyone should be able to take someone else's famous name, add a .com or a .net and register it, but it happens a lot. A trademark would provide some protection, but trademarking a name is not cheap. Balabushka is trademarked by Adam Cues, so at least no one will be selling Balabushka.com. Wish the same was true for Szamboti.com. :(

If I register a domain, for whatever reason, and someone wants to buy it from me then that would seem like free enterprise. Wish I had brought mcdonalds.com a long time ago.

The company that wants that paticular domain can always pick something else. Doing it on someone's last name isn't really right imho.

It's a brilliant idea. And buying and selling a name, any name, especially when there are probably 200,000 Szamboti's in the world is a great money making effort. I'm sure Szamboti.com is worthless just as someone else pointed out. And like the other user said, nobody has to buy it. But there is a sucker born everyday as they say.

But then nobody has to buy cues either from people who broker them on ebay when they don't even own them. Hummmm..... Zero invested, and yet everything to gain. WOW......the audacity!!!

I would rather own and control, then leverage someone else's items and use that persons ignorance as a hedge. That is taking total advantage of someone. It's my opinion when someone jacks up the price of a cue they don't even own, then sells it on or off ebay that that person is the lowest of low.....Don't you agree?

Szamboti, Ferrari, Bugati, Bulgari, Maserati ....... what's wrong with owning those names? Premium names as well. BSzamboti.com?? Szambotirules.com??? Those are worthless if you know anything about domain names and the way they are valued. Do an appraisal on those and let me know what you come up with.

If you are supposedly selling premium cues, at premium prices then obviously it would make the best business sense to have a doamin with the EXACT name in it. Take classicues.com for instance. The value of this name is marginal to to none to say the least, yet the person professes to be on the Internet since it's existence. Why doesn't he own CueSticks.com or CustomCues.com?? Names which say exactly what a person would be looking for when searching custom cue sticks on the internet.

If he's been doing it so long and knows anything about domain names he would know that the word classic is searched 90% of the time in reference to cars only. Not cues or cue sticks. Custom Cues are the highest priced cues in the world. Wouldn't it make sense as a true businessman to own a domain with the precise premium related names in it to what you are selling on your site.?? May as well own classichousecues.com And Highendcues??? Sounds more like he's high and sell cues.... Even FancyCues.com is a more comon sense approach name than HighEnd.......really!! Use your head.

Again, a clear case of ignorance and the lack of doing thier homework before aquiring a doman name.

Sounds like someone is jealous of free enterprise from Highendcues statement. Like I said, Szamboti, like Schick is merely a last name. Or a name period. What someone does with it to capitalize on it is pure genius. Like owning a name like SchickCues.com is great for traffic as people pay per click without even knowing it and the owner makes $$$. Especially when it's not trademarked. I think the stupidity in this case is the cue makers not protecting the name by trade marking it like a true business man would. I don't see the issues as Szamboti is NOT TRADEMARKED.......again, pure genius on the sellers part of that domain name. Szamboti.com on ebay......gotta love it!!!

Only my opinion.

If Szamboti.com makes the seller $1000, $2000 or $5000....... it seems the only one to blame is Szamboti if that name is so precious and worth it's weight in gold. Don't you agree? If his cues are selling for that and more, wouldn't you think that the domain name with ONLY SZAMBOTI.COM is worth more than a cue he sells. After all, the wood and materials are worth $200 at most. To glue them together and sell them for $5000 is the real robbery here. Not buying a name who's worth is in the thousands, and then selling it. Especially when it was available to anyone to buy. Seems anyone who's name is Szamboti has missed the boat as they had every opportunity to buy it before the seller of the name now who's listing it on ebay.

Just my opinion though obviously..............
But what do I know

You made a interesting post. Sure most will agree how great capitalism is but your tone however is confrontational and you appear to think you are better than everybody else. 1 word jumps out where you used stupidity above. Ambulance chaser or riding on coat-tails comes to mind.

Think everybody here now knows it is your auction looking at your past posts.

Intersting indeed when someone answers the way you do.

As I said......sucker born everyday......and if they pay for a name which seems to be worthless, yet worth talking about here......well, show me the money!!!!!!!!

People like you should go out and try creating wealth instead of being jealous of someone who does.

Now who's stupid.

By the way, your assumtions are just that. But lets face it, when the moneys rolling in..........who cares what you think.

I guess that's why they call people like you and highendcues NITS!!!!!
