TAD vs. Scruggs - Hit, Feel, and Feedback...??? overall Playability

The Great Cue Masters...!

Now, I know this is a subjective question...but I need to inquire to those who are experienced with both cues...

I really like the feel of the hit that Scruggs has been known for...and my current player is a Scruggs Hoppe Sneaky.
(with 1/2" black collar joint on the butt and shaft with pin and brass insert) and I play 9 and 10 ball mostly (favorite tip is the old moori med's, or the soaked and pressed tip from Tommy hangemhigh).

I'm wondering what type of taper does Tad use...and how is the hit, feel, and feedback that a TAD will have. This one will have a steel joint and the 5/16-18 thread. I'm wondering if it's really stiff like my Schick... or if it's got a similar hit to the Scruggs.

Any feedback from you guys is Greatly appreciated...!!!
Thank You,
jwe

I'm hoping for a little feedback from all of the TAD owners !!!

In my opinion, they are similar.

Scruggs cues changed around a bit through the years, so even among them there is quite a variation in the way they play. I've played with a couple of sneaky's and they were quite a bit different than some of the later cues.

Tad has remained very consistent through the years. His shafts are exceptional - among the best quality I've seen. I was having difficulty measuring the taper for you, but I came up with about 1mm from 12" to the tip, and 2mm from 16" to the tip. That's a lot of meat in the back part of the shaft, which explains why they weigh 4+ ounces.

Yet, no Tad I even played with felt overly stiff. They give crisp feedback and are very consistent from shaft to shaft. There have been a lot of good players over the years who have used the plain maple Tad's with the steel joints as their players.

Tad's cues play great, I have one Scruggs cue and they are a bit different. Although both have steel joints the scruggs has a lizard wrap and weighs much lighter than most of my Tads. A standard Tad tip is pretty hard, but if your going to throw on some moori med or a pressed/soaked elkmaster you should be fine.
Plus worst case scenario you don't like the Tad, there is always a buyer for one so you wont have to worry abput losing money.
Tad cues are awesome, some of the best hitting cues IMO

I am a Scruggs SP player from way back, love them.

The Tad PJ I had for a while felt even better as far as feed back. Slightly stiffer hit. High praise indeed.

Right up there with Lambros and Black Boar.

Great Information!!!

Tate, Zirroe, and Desmocourtney: I really appreciate your feedback on this...I didn't want to hesitate too long on trying to decide to buy it or not...and with your quick and positive comments, you certainly made the decision easier.

I just picked up my first PJ Tad cue...
It will be here by Wednesday this week...and I can't wait to hit some balls with it !!!

Thanks!

Tads

These are just my opinions::::

First Tads are a bit slender in the rear butt section, balance is throughout the whole cue. If you ever look under a wrap you'll see what I mean. Tads tend to have a softer shaft maple, I mean there not darker in color like eastern cue makers. Scruggs tend to hit like a traditional steel jointed cue. Steel jointed cues are very comparable amongst allot of cue makers because they separate the cue. Leaving it 2 pieces vs a continuous piece. In my opinion if your going to go. Go with an older big pin Tad, you'll never let it go. OLD SCHOOL

Wednesday has come and gone, how do you like your first PJ TAD?

I am LOVING my TAD !!!
...even with the small hacks and dents...it's still one of my best cues, if not the best hitting cue that I've got!!!

It hits and feels great, and that's why I posted that I wanted to have some of the TAD tips...because it's moving the ball really well...so I thought I'd put a couple of tips back and also put some on my Scruggs to see how it played.

My TAD has become my main player and it's certainly one of the best hitters that I've got...
