TGIF at Turning Stone: Day of Reckoning!

Just got back from the Meadow Harvest Buffet. Talk about a food-lover's dream. Italian, Chinese, Mexican, American, and desserts to please my sweet tooth. I could have had prime rib, but when I cast my eyes on the fried clams, I was reminded of Howard Johnson's as a child and filled my platter with these ambrosial little morsels. Hmmm, good! Then for dessert, we moseyed on over to the Starbucks so I could get my triple-shot cappie. All the amenties of home and MORE here at Turning Stone Casino.

We ran into Corey Deuel in the hallway, and he plays Niels Feijan at 4:00 p.m., EST, as does Keith. This is the day of reckoning, and the player who brings his BEST game to the table will get to advance the charts and move a little closer to the winner's circle.

Corey said he and Shawn Putnam played golf yesterday for a friendly wager of "green fees." Shawn won, but Corey said he didn't have his own clubs and used Shawn's. Out of all the pool players who enjoy golf, it seems that everyone is in agreement that Johnny Archer is a very proficient golfer and can beat the best of 'em away from the pool table. Pool players do seem to enjoy playing golf whenever they get the chance, and here in Verona, NY there is a lovely golf course. This is Tribal Nation country, and when I gaze my eyes on the beautifully landscaped countryside, it is a sight to behold. Beautiful untouched lands in the distant horizon make this area of the Nation a feast for sore eyes.

This is Day Two of Four of the Joss Tour Season Finale. Whoever is going to win in this tough field is anybody's guess, but I'm sure having fun seeing this tournament unfold.

Will report back after the 4:00 Battle of the Tribal Nation of Pool Players in Exhibition Hall. Whether it's Efren from the Philippines, Ralf Souquet from Germany, Niels Feijen from The Netherlands, or American Champions Earl and Johnny, there will ultimately be one man left standing and whoever it may be, he's going to have to earn it to beat these top guns of the land. :p

Earl Strickland is a happy camper!

No matter where Earl Strickland goes, he is stopped by passerbies and pool fans. I have never seen Earl in such high spirits as he is this week at the Joss Tour Season Finale. He looks as if he is having a grand old time, and he's relaxed and always brandishing a smile on his face. No matter what he is doing, practicing or getting ready to play his match, he takes time for the fans and signs a kazillion autographs and poses for pictures.

Here's me and Earl. Even though Earl has been nice enough to let me snap his picture at every single tournament I see him at, he still takes time to give me one more. This picture was taken by Diana Hoppe, the players' favorite photographer. Earl Strickland in the house is a nice complement to any pool tournament. When he enters the room, all eyes dart towards him. EVERYBODY is enjoying the smoothness of this event. Scheduled matches allow players and spectators alike to enjoy the Turning Stone Casino to the fullest. :)

LOL. Makeup does wonders! :D

Good news. I saw Greg Sullivan and he's out of the hospital. He looks fine, but said that he is going to have to take it easy. His wife is here with him now at the casino, playing the nickel slots. Greg said they are going to make a vacation out of this trip.

The Simonis blue cloth on the Diamond tables is called "Tour Blue." It is a special color that has been scientifically tested to be the best color for pool players to see the balls clearly. Keith said he likes it much better than the green cloth. Interestingly enough, the tennis circuit is starting to use this same hue of blue in their venues. Pool is keeping up with modern technology. :p

Keith is practicing now for his 4:00 p.m. match, sparring with Dennis Hatch.

Joey Ryan is stuck 7 to 5 on the B side and is trying to stay alive. Gerry Slivka too is on the losers' side of the charts, tied at 5 to 5 at the time of this writing.

Earl Strickland lost 9 to 7 on the A side of the charts to a player named Collier.

I saw Little John in the hallway. He said he likes his bracket and feels confident he is going to have a good showing here at the Turning Stone. If he keeps winning, his toughest opponent, though, will be Francisco Bustamante.

Well, that's just a tidbit here at the Joss Tour Season Finale!

Thanks

Jam ... For the updates. Great matches coming up in a bit.
No one has even mentioned Danny Harriman vs. Danny Basavich
match. I would love to watch that one along with Cory and Niels.

You're just having too much fun, I'm envious ... lol

LMAO, I wonder how much he had to choke up on those clubs?!?!? I think Shawn's taller than Corey by about 5 or 6 inches. :p :p

I don't know whether to thank you for the updates or beg you to stop.... I'm sick at my stomach for not being there. Your stories and Diana's pics are just making me more upset about not being there. :( Why do people have to go & get married anyway?!?!? Damn wedding reception!

Upsets and Triumphs from 4:00 p.m. matches

Keith McCready lost his match to Jeff Kennedy from Canada. Jeff came out of the gate 4-zip, making a 9-ball on the break. Keith tied the score 5-5 and looked like he had the momentum going. However, Jeff kept his focus and plowed right through him, winning the match with a final score of 9 to 7. Keith has to play again tonight at 10:00 p.m. on the B side.

Danny Harriman is having a great tournament. It's good to see him back in the saddle again after taking a hiatus. He just defeated one of my favorites, Danny "Kid Delicious" Basavich, 9 to 3. Danny is still in this tournament and will play his B-side match this evening.

Shawn Putnam defeated the Genie Man, 9 to 3.

Koop and RoadWaorier from AzBilliards forum are in attendance.

That's just a short update for now.

Great to see you, too, Mike. Hope to see you tomorrow. :)

Here's the winners' bracket as of 10:00 p.m., Friday night: Jim Forsythe vs. Dennis Hatch, Tommy "Shorty" D'Alfonso vs. Jeff Kennedy; Francisco Busamante vs. Hong Vongxay, Mike Panoic vs. Ralf Souquet, Johnny Archer vs. Mike Hurley, Efren Reyes vs. Shawn Putnam, Bill Maidhoff vs. Rodney Cuillerier, and Jose Parica vs. Mike Massey.

Drexel Hills Billiards owner Bob Maidhoff had an exciting match with Little John going hill-hill, with Bob keeping his chances alive on the A side of the charts.

Efren Reyes defeated Danny Harriman, 9 to 1, putting Danny in the losers' bracket

Ralf Souquet beat Niels Feijen, 9 to 5 (I think). Ralf is playing really well, and so is Niels. Niels was cut-breaking the balls from the D with good success, but Ralf kept his focus and remains on the winners' side.

That's the latest here in Verona, NY.
