What are peoples opinions of this teacher and his DVD's? I am interested in the "Taking your Game to the Next Level" DVD and "Kicking and Banking" DVD's.

If not The Monk's DVD's, then who do you suggest? I am most interested in DVD's, becuase I learn a lot easier and better by watching and listening than just reading abd then conceptualizing. If college had been a movie, I would have been Suma Cum Laude....

Any feedback on this subject is much appreciated.

Unless you like sleeping, just get the Tom Rossman kicking and banking lessons from him. I'm sure the monk knows a lot and can help with people's games, but for most people his method doesn't work all that great from what I've read and heard. That's my own experience, too. I'm a feel banker and kicker, but Tom Rossman gives you a good foundation to build your kicking and banking skills on using the diamonds and the parallel shift method. I think you can find some free videos of the monk's on here or elsewhere on the web with a little searching. They'll give you a pretty good idea of his style and whether you think it will be worth spending money on to get more.
For my money, a live instructor is a good bet over DVDs. They can tell you what you are doing wrong and help you make adjustments during the lesson. You'll never get that from a book or a DVD. Scott Lee is one of the best and travels the country giving lessons for a very reasonable rate. The BCA website also has lists of other certified instructors. If you must go the DVD route, Joe Tucker has some very good stuff. There is a lot of instructional material on the web for free. I have a stack of about 100 pages of drills that I've gotten off the web. There are tons of videos. Check the snooker sites also. Dr. Dave has extensive pool information on his site from many different sources and Bob Jewett has some pearls on his web site, too. Once you've done a bit of searching and learning, you'll get a better idea of who the best sources of information are and what kind of information will be of the most use to you along your learning curve.

I thought Tom Rossman's dvd's on kicking and banking are titled the "The Monk" 202. Those are the ones I was thinking of getting. Seems like you think they are good, so that helps.

Most of us are always looking for anything that will help improve our game. Videos are great sources for info but when you need something done right you hire a pro..would want your teeth pulled from someone who learned from vids. Take a lesson ,get the one on one training so your flaws can be discovered..we all have them. And remember this..Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Till your good is better and your better best.

You can do a whole lot better than anything by the monk. I've seen his stuff and seen him in person. Very personable guy but there are far better instructors/books/DVDs.

Hello,

"Taking your Game to the Highest Level" is solely about the Pre-shot routine. Search Pre-shot routines within this Forum and save yourself some money.

I have the monk 202 video set and it has zero to do with the monk. I ordered from Tom Rossman himself and he said that the were his old rack up a victory videos plus an added disc of advanced stuff. He even signed them for me. It's a 3 dvd set. I really like them and have used the info and it does work. I myself was leary when I was on the phone with him when he mentioned the name monk 202 but he explained the situation and I am very happy. I'm sure the others mentioned on here are fantastic too..
