He does say some batshit crazy stuff during interviews and the time he dodged all the fans coming out of the venue I thought was pretty small of him. There's no harm in taking a few seconds to acknowledge the fans.

Fans in your face or a microphone in your face after a tough loss, there are times everyone needs a cooling off period. A few forms of competition implemented five to fifteen minute cooling off periods before interviewing a loser. I don't think it lasted for any of them. Generally the loser is interviewed before the winner. You get the most interesting sound bites when somebody's emotions are raw.
Most forms of competition you just have to learn to deal with the interviews while spreading much the usual pap. Maybe your team on or off the field let you down, maybe your equipment is subpar at the moment, maybe money to keep the equipment in top shape is lacking.
"My opponent put in a great performance! His day to win today." No sense saying I have been violently ill for two days and am ten pounds lighter than I was when I started this event. Nobody cares, not even me. I came to win, less than that is failure and it doesn't matter why.
