lately i have started a few threads about things that happen to me in league. most of them have the word league in the title so you have a good idea what topic is in the thread before you open it.
well last night i made a thread about an occurance in league but did not mention league in the title.
one of our illustrious posters replied in the thread and voiuced his displeasure about finding it was league related again.
well i made a reply back to him and then he made a reply back to me. it was all civil and had a lil bit of witty sarcasm from both of us but mostly him.
he also gave me some constructive critisim about how i handled a certain situation.
so as a way of saying thank you to double d i decided to make a thread non league related thread just to please him.
double d comes across as a serious pool player and as we all know serious pool players are always looking for ways to improve their game, he dont wanna waste his time reading about some league bs.
so i had a dilemna about what topic to choose for this thread . a topic that would benefit anyone wanting to improve their game.
i scratched my head all day long " along with some other body parts" wondering what topic would please double d .
tips ? nah. that has been beat to death on here and i honestly dont think any one brand will drastically improve your game.
chalk? nah. again that has been beaten to death and agin i honestly dont think any one brand will drastically improve your game." btw i use kamui "
cues ? nah. again beaten to death and again any one brand will not improve your game.
tips, cues and chalk are all subjective and just a matter of personal preference.
who done what to whom lately ? nah already a couple of threads on the front page. besides it aint gonna improve your game and its just too much drama for me. i dont care if double d would be pleased by such a thread , a mans gotts draw the line somewhere.
then BINGO ! it hit me. the proverbial light bulb lit up. i found the topic i thought double d would be pleased with. FOCUS !
yep focus would be the topic. you gotta have focus if you want to improve your game and play to the best of your ability. l too many times people have posted on here how they have missed easy shots they normally make and other ways they have just plain screwed up during a match. the reason is simple, lack of focus.
the trick is how do you obtain focus and once you do how do you maintain it during a match ?
i would like to share with you a way i have forced myself to obtain focus and maintain it.
i have started playing with my breaking stick during certain matches. mostly against lower level opponents until i have perfected my routine to my satisfaction.
the solution i have come up with is to play with my breaking stick. why you ask, and how does it help to obtain focus ?
it has a g 10 ferrule. no leather or at all. it is all one solid piece of plastic or whatever material they make it out of.it is semi transparent , you can see the end of the shaft inside of it.
i have to maintain complete focus when shooting with it to keep from mis cueing to hell and back with it. i played with it at home a couple of times then decided to use it in league,
at 1st i was real tense using it and just made sure i stayed as near as center ball as possible. as i became more comfortable i started using english more and more. now my stop and draw are better with it than my playing stick.
i have played 2 matches using my breaker and won both of them. like i said it was against lower level players where i knew i would get back to the table if i screwed up. the thing is i have not mis cued or missed an easily makeable ballwith it yet.as i said i force my self to focus intently on evey shot knowing if i dont i will screw up.
every body got a kick out of the plinking sound it make when i strike the cueball.
the thing is when i use my playing cue i have not made myself focus like i do when i use my breaker. old habits are hard to break but i am working on it.
i realize this may not work for you, you know the old saying " one size dont fit all" but try it and see what you think. btw i would like to hear how other people try to stay focused.
now double d i hope this post pleases you.
if it dont... all i can say is ..well hell i tried.:grin-square:
