Hello, i'm new to the boards but lifelong player and admirer. I've always liked shannon daulton's game. I think he is confindent, consistent, and trust worthy. I remember hearing him talk about the filipinos without much admiration. He said something like busta plays great big table 9 ball. However, if he would play all of the games i would bust him and alot of the others. He referred to their weakness in particually banks, one pocket, straight pool and i think he mentioned some bar table action. He did say that efren wasn't one of the filipions mentioned. Keep in mind this was years ago. I'm not sure what speed he plays these days since he is a active business man. i think he had a chance. He had a great break, great stroke, a great understanding of one pocket, banks, and of course big and small table 9 ball. what do you guys think. was he on to something? One more thing have anyone on the board watch shannon play any big time money matches? It seems like not many people ever woofed at him all that much.

I can remember at a tourney in Greenville, SC. about 3 or 4yrs ago hearing Shannon say that at that time Bustamante was the best nine ball player he had ever seen. Thats a pretty powerful statment seeing as how Shannon has played the best in the world. I saw Shannon at a Viking tourney in Atlanta a couple of months ago and he still holds to his maxim...he will play anyone in the world a set of 9 ball, one pocket and banks. Shannon is a regular on here so it will be interesting to hear his input if he decides to reply.

I love Daulton's game. He's definitely one of the best all-around players around. If there were a true all-around tournament with 9-ball, one pocket, banks, 14.1 etc, I suspect you would see Shannon fare very well along with Danny Harriman. Daulton and Harriman's names rarely seem to come up when people name the best all-around players.

Yes i know. Very rarely does people mention shannon daulton as one of the premier all around players.

It is because Efren Reyes always comes to mind first...

I was really impressed with the heart and aggressiveness of a very young Shannon Daulton when he beat Bugs Rucker at the Legends of One Pocket III.

Shannon may not see this thread because he is on vacation for a few days. I will try to get in touch with him tomorrow and see if he wants to add his 2 cents to this conversation.

The reason people don't menton Shannon as much anymore is because Shannon isn't in action much anymore, gambling or otherwise. He is running his own tour and plays in those events but he doesn't play in a great deal of other tournaments. He is still lethal playing any game and in an all-around format he is still considered on of the top contenders. If he were to commit himself to playing everyday he would be very hard to handle. The truth is that he may go weeks at a time between pulling his cue out of the case. In the warmer months you are way more likely to find him at the golf course than to find him in a pool room. He is enjoying his time with his girlfriend and extended family and he doesn't want to burn the roads anymore. He has nothing to prove to anyone. He has won some very prestigous events and titles and his peers know he is not to be counted out of any competition. When he gets his head and heart right he is still in the upper echelon of pool players in the world. I'm not sure if he still has the offer open to anyone to play a set of all three games but it wouldn't shock me if he did.

No one can dispute yore opinion about him and I knew him since he was in his late teen age years.

Shannon Daulton is one of my all time favorite players. He plays world class banks, is a bonafide threat at 9 ball tournaments & has an outstanding
record in 1 pocket tournaments. He is FEARLESS when gambling and his all around credentials are right up there with Hopkins, Parica and Varner.
Plus, when he talks with you, he pays attention and is not about to give a "politically correct" answer as to what he thinks. He is a great champion and another credit to our sport. My only complaint is he seems to have scaled back on his playing these days. I wish him all the best in his new endeavers.

Thank you!

Hello all! This is Marge. I was reading this thread to Shannon and he wanted me to comment on it for him. Although, he may have good hand/eye coordination his typing skills are not up to par. First of all, I want to thank everyone for the nice comments. I have worked very hard on keeping a good reputation. As we all know the pool world can be brutal.

Anyways, K-town (Daniel) has really sumed it for me. I don't want to burn the roads up anymore. I just know that there isn't a future in pool- esp. since the IPT flopped. That really took the air out of me. I was ready to get back to playing full time and dedicating my life to the sport that I love. But instead that didn't happen. So I will always play in the big events- The Derby, US Open, BCA and some other pro events that are worth adding to my resume. In the meantime, I am exploring a different avenue. I am trying to give back to this sport by giving the players in the south a tour to play on. I am hoping that one day pool will become a sport of choice like golf but I don't foresee it anytime soon. It is really sad that this game that I have devoted my whole life to is looked upon as a joke here in the U.S. So what am I to do, but do what I love- play pool, play golf, spend time w/ my family and enjoy life.

Thanks for everyones continued support for me and "The Great Southern Billiard Tour." We would love to see some new faces at some of our tournaments. Ya'll take care.

The Cannon & Marge:)

Shannon, good to see you post. I am your Josswest buddy from the DCC that is always at the Cornerstone cue booth. I talk to Mr. Stroud about once a week. He tells me both your cue and mine are both in progress. I can't wait and I'm sure you can't either. I will be heading to Valley Forge in a couple of weeks and will again be helping Bill Grassley with his booth. I would like to see you make it. Mr. Stroud is planning on attending and it would be great if you could join us for dinner one night.

Sincerely, Jim Kissinger

In December 1989, there was an article in a magazine called "The Snap" entitled: "Shannon Daulton, a Rising Star."

You should see the picture of a young Shannon Daulton executing his long stroke. :)

Anyway, the article reads: Talk about starting them out young. Try one year old! That's how old Shannon Daulton was when he first played on a pool table. "Played on," you understand, not "played pool," but still...

When Gerald (Shannon's dad) would have friends over to play on his basement table some 16 years ago, little Shannon could be found climbing down the basement stairs backwards and insisting on a bit of the action. Gerald would respond by putting Shannon up on the table, where the toddler would sit in his diapers and hit balls around while dad visited with his buddies.

Then one day, so the story goes, Gerald looked up to find his son running 2 and 3 balls at a time. So he went out and bought him a $3 cue at Sears.

That was apparently all it took, for at the age of 8, Shannon Daulton entered his first amateur pool tournament and, to no one's surprise, he won it.

Things moved along pretty fast after that, and at the age of eleven, Shannon beat world one-pocket champion Grady Mathews at his own game, with Grady spotting him 20 to 7.

Today, at 17, Shannon is one of the premier players in Kentucky. In spite of his youth, he shows a great deal of patience for the game of one-pocket and is probably one of the youngest players ever to achieve a high level of proficiency at this, the "chess game" of pool.

Years at the table have seasoned this young man, and
he aspires to be one of the game's top players. He enjoys tournament play, and is happy (as are we all) to see the proliferation of new tournaments being held nowadays.

Already considered by many seasoned pros to be a "player," he now travels the road with his father, who also acts as his stakehorse....

Well, Shannon Daulton, you've come a long way, baby! :D

Check out Shannon as he holds the most beautiful trophy I have ever set my eyes on, and to think I almost got my little paws on it, but Shannon came out on top of a hard-fought match with my horse. To tell you the truth, the money was good in that Pro/Am tournament, but I think Shannon and me both had our eyes on that trophy, and dag nab it, Shannon won! :p

Lets not forget that the Cannon won his FIRST Legends of One Pocket event against Steve Mizerak in the finals. Steve declined putting any cash on that set, although Cannon made sure to ask. Oh...and Cannon was 19 years old. Did you hear that? 19!

Cannon won his second Legends event against Efren Reyes in the finals a few years later in a hard fought and arduous match.

Any questions?

Man, that is a funny line. Shannon was THAT sure. Can you imagine what was going thru the Miz's head?
I'de never heard that tid bit before...thanks for posting it.

There was a rumour that Shannon had indeed bet it up with Miz on that finals. In any event, that LO1P finals is one of my favorite 1p matches ever. You have to see that match, its one of the best showings of Heart and how good Daulton played in top gear. After you watch that one, check out the 1998 LO1P match where Shannon beats Efren 4-3.

Does Shannon own a pool room now? I kinda figured he hadnt been playing as much since he wasnt travelling to places like Reno and overseas at all.

The Cannon & Marge,
When you get the chance please share with the rest of the AZ community currently where tournaments are being held for The Great Southern Billiard Tour.

We are kinda Southern here in New Orleans and would love to know which states and cities the tour extends to.

It is always a pleasure to see professional pool players taking control of their lives and making it better for themselves and everyone around them. Good luck and best wishes with The Great Southern Billiard Tour.

Any web sites or updates about upcoming tournaments and or results of tournaments would be appreciated.

We are currently having a web site built. It will be www.shannonthecannondaulton.net. It is up and running- we are adding the final details/pictures to it. So in about a week it should be finished. In the meantime, there is a schedule of events here on AZ in the tours and tourneys section. We will be releasing our next quarter of events- that will take us through August and we will be sure and post them on the web. As far as the tour branching out right now- we are trying to stay within a 300 mile area. We have a family- my girlfriend has 2 boys that we spend a great deal of time with. It's hard to travel every weekend- so we are trying to have only 2 tournaments a month. But in the future we may plan some bigger events and travel a little further from the homefront. Again I want to thank everyone on the board for their kind words- they are very much appreciated. We are planning on being in Valley Forge and look forward to seeing everyone in a few weeks. Take care.
