I don’t know if anyone else watches any of them.

So I’m watching Tor’s 14 day experiment. And there is this guy doing (the one with a wife and 3 kids and father who passed away, and they had a memorial tournament for him 2 weeks later (to give you the whom I’m talking about).

So during the interviewing he talks about tournaments (seemed local to me) with pay outs of 5 – 6000 $$$ for first place. Is there anywhere, I mean the pay out from the Joss event on the 8th was like $1200? It seems he might be quite off on how much money there is out there.

I’m just curious…

I saw that one a few months ago. The guy had no clue. Does any D player ever have a clue, about ANY part of the game? That's why he's a D.
 
That's Joshua Hornbeck from PA.

He just won the Pennsylvania Master's State Championship...tho, I'll be honest I'm not sure what league that is, if any.

He's DEFINITELY no "D" player.

He made the most improvement I've ever seen in a 14 day period. At the beginning of the video, I could have given him the 7B. By the end, he could have given me the 6.

I'm scheduled to be filmed/instructed by Tor starting April 15th.
 
I will say this. Tor's training is totally legit. If you are doing what he teaches and you don't improve, you aren't trying.

I've got no dog in this fight but can tell you that just in doing the ball pocketing drills alone has helped my game a ton. YMMV

You have no idea how excited I am for this opportunity. Tor accepted my application almost a year ago, if not longer. I've been biding my time and was thrilled when I got his call last month.

I'm going to try to pay it forward a bit, if at all possible. I've already talked to Tor about me giving up a day of my training, so that he'll work with one of the local young guns, who is 15 years old. I've already seen the kid running racks of 9B and played him some 1P. A 15 year old playing 1P? Pretty rare, I'd think. And it wasn't like I browbeat him into it either. He already knew the rules and had some experience. Like the rest of us, still just trying to learn the moves and proper shot selection. I'm only a low level 1P player, but after setting several traps and snaring him in very few.....I had to buckle down to win.

Anyway, the kid is quiet, respectful, and has AMAZING fundamentals. That's why I'm excited to see him get a chance for a push to the next level.

Tor said he would talk to the young man to evaluate his "maturity level" and see how much time he can give him. I think he'll be pleasantly surprised.

The 15 year old's father is also going to get a few hours or so.

Add that to me, my best friend (the other accepted applicant), and the room owner of where we're shooting.....and Tor Lowry is gonna be a busy guy for 14 days. :)

We have local weekend tournaments that pay out 1200 for first place. There is money out there.......you just have to find it. It is sad that the Joss event paid out that little.

Would you say he was a high D or low C when you could give him the 7?

I'm not debating Tor's teaching techniques, in fact I think they are extremely sound. What I'm questioning highly is when a player thinks he can make a living at this game, does he actually know what he's talking about? Or is it more the case of "he doesn't know what he doesn't know"?

The players skills at the start of the video to me seemed D+/C- level. Of course, that could also be creative editing to make the improvement after 14 days look better.

Now, at the local pool rooms, the bangers and the D's usually think you can make a living at this game. By the time a player becomes a C or higher, they usually know better.

Yes, when I could have given him the 7, he appeared to be about a low C.

These are my opinions.

As for the person who said that it's not believable.....what in particular do you not believe?
 
So you must have been a B+ to give the 7 to a C player and now you get the 6 from him so that puts him just under pro class. so from low C to just under pro in 14 days. Who would buy that?

BryanB, I see now that it was a team championship. Thanks for the info. But, in his defense, it's still the Master's.

I'd rate him at about a solid "B" player now. He's not a shortstop or anything, but his improvement in such a short amount of time was astonishing. I'm SURE results will vary and he may be a bit of an outlier when it comes to comparing him to others.

It's still impressive, nonetheless. I'd advise anyone with a free hour to search YouTube for "Joshua Hornbeck 14 days". Not even so much to see the results, but the process and as to what Tor is trying to accomplish.

Bryan, I'll be looking forward to your summary in regards to working with Tor. I think you're up directly before I am.

I'd say I'm a high C+ player on a "national scale".

Do you think that there's more or less than 2 balls difference between a C+ and a C- ? I suppose we could agree to disagree over that.

I just joined a NAPA league, but my sample size is VERY small. I haven't even played any 9B matches yet. I started as a 70, but have currently risen to an 82, with 101 being my short-term goal. That's for 8B only, in my first career session.

Maybe I'm better than I realize. Maybe I'm worse. All I know is that I'm very inconsistent, which I'm hoping Tor can help cure. I've recently moved to an area that will allow me more table and tourney time, which is key.
