What is the process for cutting the two different woods when making a traditional full spliced sneaky pete? Is there photos of this process anywhere?
Thanks,
Zim

Funny you should ask. I am in the process of putting together some photos of the steps involved in doing a full splice. I was going to post it in the "truth about sneaky petes" thread but I will put it here. I will post the link when I get the page done. Hopefully tonight

Hey Murray, It's Eddie here.. Since we are on the topic of sneaky petes, I was wondering why we haven't seen any 4point/4veneer sneaky petes, like those titlist style ones? I've only seen 1 piece of 4point/4veneer sneaky pete on ebay recently after looking for 2years. How much more difficult is it to make a 4point/4veneer sneaky pete as compared to the normal no-veneer ones? Would you be interested to try it before you retire? :p

Wow..pbat2751, thanks alot. I haven't been to Mark Bear's website for awhile. That 4point/4veneer sneaky pete he has is beautiful..

I_Luv_This_Game : Yes, but that piece is a titlist conversion..I'm looking for someone who can make one from scratch

Thanks for the links and photos! I guess what I'm looking for is guidance and/or photos of how to cut and join the two blocks of wood to produce the full splice blank. Make more sense?

Eddie,
I'm not sure why you don't see any veneered sneaky petes around. I would have to guess that it is because they would be expensive and have a very small target market.

I know that Mark Bear makes some full spliced stuff with veneers but his splice is much different than a traditional full splice. If you look at a old Titlist you will notice that the maple in the forearm tapers to a very sharp point where it meets the veneers. Then the veneers taper to a almost sharp point where they meet the handle wood. I wish I had the equipment to cut my forearms that sharp. Then I would attempt a veneered blank.

Murry, looks to me like you do a great job with your splices. If you would like to know how to cut the forearms sharp, give me a call. I'll tell you how. It's easy.

Hi Tucker,
Nice work on the sneaky pete. Its the first time I ever saw a sneaky pete before it's assembled.

Yes I saw Mark Bear's site and the one on his homepage looks really nice. I've seen Titlist conversions before, and I'm amazed how a 4point/4veneer sneaky pete could be used for housecues back then. It's just a pity that they use plain straight grain maple, but I don't think I would like a birdeyes shaft either..lol :D

I make two kinds of full splice cues with veneer. The first kind is squared off at the bottom of the splice and the second comes to a sharp point like the old titlist cues. I sell the squared off version as blanks to other makers and the other version as a finished cue. I can make them in almost any woods imaginable. I also offer sneaky pete blanks which are basically the by product of my full splice with veneer cues and the bottom of the splice comes to a point. I'll have more and hopefully clearer pics on my site very soon. Any questions shoot me an email or call. Thanks

Mark

I understand how the points are cut into the forearm, but what about the handle section? How is it cut, with what machinery or tool(s)? Photos??
Thanks,
Zim
Can someone answer this? Tucker, Blud, Mark...

Thanks,
Zim
