Van Boening v. Bustamante 8 ball

Watched the Bustmante/Van Boening match at the recent US Open in LV. It went to the case game. Bustamante, one ball from the 8, missed a soft shot in the side. SVB jumped up, danced around pumping his fist in the air, and ran off for a restroom break. He came back and won the game when Bustamante conceded the 8 ball. Never expected such a low-class act from SVB. He didn't deserve to win. High marks to Bustamante, though.

I heard about this, but didn't see it. Perhaps SVB was just being playful. I know that he has said that Bustamante is one of the players he most admires, so I doubt he was trying to show him up.

I agree it was a little bit of poor sportsmanship. I think more than anything it was such an easy shot that it was a shock when he missed. Also, Shane had taken off his glove while Busty was running out, which was a bit of poor sportsmanship IMO. Almost a concession.

I don't think he should have taken a break there either. In general I didn't like the time out rules they used. Do you both players really need to take a potty break in a 90-minute match? On a live stream? It's one thing if you really need a break - I think it was McMinn who had a bloody nose during one of his matches on the live stream. But it was more about how to shark the opponent most effectively.

Your first post is to run down SVB? If you think that was low class, you haven't been around pool for very long. And, since when is showing a little emotion supposed to be low class? So many on here post about not wanting to see robots at the table, but as soon as someone shows some emotion, they get slammed for it.

I agree and I also think taking a break was a good way to get his thoughts together. That is going from one emotional state of mind to another in the time of one shot. He was sure he'd lost to sure he'd win in a matter of a couple seconds. Clearing his head wasn't such a bad move, if you ask me.

I didn't know he took his glove off. That is very close to a concession in my opinion. Was he trying to shark bustamante?

Just my 2 cents...

Why or what does it matter if SVB took off his glove, he was going to take a break anyhow? lol So what if he got a lil excited cause he got another chance at the table... he did NOT make Busty miss the previous shot... for crying out loud, 99% of other pool players would have gotten excited...

There are a lot of other players whom done 100 X worse... I think many are just upset that their player did NOT win.... besides if there was an issue the two players will need to work it out...

Yeah , u're right. No doubt it was low class and even cheap.
To be happy is one thing but jumping up n punching the air is downright disgusting, seems like smth only Earl wld do, oh he done it before against Steve davies.
Now, i dont have a problem w him taking off his glove or going to the toilet to calm his nerves, he have every right to do that.
U dont see guys doing what shane does in snooker and we sit here wondering wheres the money in pool.
Snooker pros conduct themselves the way they're dressed.

Now, how wld u feel if you're busty and ur opponent does that to u as if he just strike the god dammn lottery .

Just my humble opinion.

Have you ever watched the gambling that takes place in the Philippines? With all the roosters crowing, motorcycles cruising by and people yelling, I doubt something as simple as taking off a glove will shark busty

Perhaps not, but Shane always shoots with a glove on. If he took it off when busty was shooting it is a fairly clear indication that he thought the match was over

Maybe his hand was hot.

Gloves are for sissies anyway. Break out that powder like they do in the Philippines. :)

Busty is one of Shane's favorite players and one that is one of his hardest to beat. He has said on TAR and in some interviews that he respects him a lot. I'm not saying what Shane did is OK...I didn't see it. I would bet that Shane has already spoke with Busty and they are still friends. Johnnyt

Well, I never thought SVB is a saint like the nuthuggers do but Busty is not famous for his sportsmanship too. If you want sportsmanship, you better look at other players than these two. Pool is perhaps the only cue sport not known for sportsmanship, actually.

I liken this to Sherman with Seattle at worse when he went off air after he busted crabtrees nuts in on the conference championships.....

I was living in Boston and this rich snooty woman said...." Ugh just another uneducated n"

I said you know he was too of his class at Stanford right....you could be the best got dam footballer ever and if your uneducated and stupid Stanford wouldn't give two craps about ya.....that "n" as u say is dam smarter than you I bet. But this is for the super bowl and emotions run high. worked for all his life.

Taking off the glove is just a sibconscious give up to one of his favorite players.... Just as much respect for busty game as could be a shark lol...and the fist pump... Could he not have meant it in a crappy way?

The quick change over coulda had his got dam heart beating out his chest for all we know.

Tell you what if it had happened to me I may have ye hawed so got dam loud the roof woulda collapsed. And dam well woulda needed quick short time out to not feel like the Tim man riding a go cart at 100 miles an hour down a bumpy road

Lol between people jumping on tables and throwing cues around I think a little celebration is good. Who cares if he took the glove off? I take mine off all the time to let my hand cool off or clean chalk off it and saying it should be a concession is just so far out there its funny. Sure if he takes the cues apart then its a concession but the glove really? Are we nit picking just a little?

No one deserves to win after their opponent misses a game winning shot, in fact there should be a 3 miss rule....you get three chances to make game winning shots before your opponent gets a chance to take their turn at the table.....what a frigging cry baby!!!

Then I'd suggest you stick to watching snooker. Keep in mind, SOMEONE had to have MISSED their shot in order to have given SHAVE another chance at the table to w
WIN. So, instead of knocking Shane for being excited for having just recieved ANOTHER chance to win the match and tournament.....how about showing some LACK OF RESPECT for Bustamante for MISSING A GAME WINNING SHOT!

In my opinion, it would have been a complete lack of respect for Shane on Bustamante part to have insisted Shane shoot the 8 in for the win after just having missed his own game winning shot....which is why Shane took his glove off, because he knew Bustamante would show him the same respect had the table been turned around the other way....because they ARE friends!
